Re: Another Topic of molesting female practitioner

My point is simply about being a hypocrite. Don't pretend to be a monk and carelessly bang randoms on the side. Especially if it seems you only want to publicly have vows to make a living. I know a few Lama marriages full of infidelity, betrayal and anger as well. The problem is using rank and psyc...

Re: What's the best way to relate to the ageing process?

There's the obvious Buddhist way of understanding Impermanence, which is essential. But, from another perspective as a female, there's a lot to say. First, seeing beautiful people age (I was about to say "lose their looks" but therein lies the mistake), like famous models and actresses, etc reminds...

Full disclosure, I'm a registered Democrat whose voted dem party my entire life. I will vote for Bernie, if given the opportunity, he's my favorite candidate. Re: Taking Stock of Practice

When I first became interested in Buddhism, it was because it offers 'a way', namely, the way of meditation. At the time - decades ago - my idea was that through spiritual experience and discipline, you could realise a higher truth in, and for, yourself. And Buddhist teachings pointed towards that....

Orson Welles tried the Paul Masson diet, to no avail. It could work, though! :D

Well. It is made a big deal by fellow Buddhist travelers. Thus the OP. None of the above is any real problem. I'm curious what sort of fellow Buddhist travelers are making a big deal out of these ideas you're sharing. We're supposed to examine our teachers carefully, so how much faith are we to put...

Re: Offering mandala plates

The extra drops of saffron water have done the trick - thanks for all the suggestions! I started with Longchen Nyinthik and then there were some obstacles, such as my Lama died, the practice group left town and my inspiration suffered. Thought I would never see the proverbial light at the end of th...

Re: Offering mandala plates

Are you continuing Ngondro, doing another Ngondro or are you just having fun and being generous? :D I'm doing another one. I did the Karma Kamtsang one quite a few years ago. I only continued doing a bit of that, because to make it "round" it's nice to do the whole set, but there is quite a lot of ...

Re: On Generosity & Offerings

Something I wrote last year for Loppon Ogyan Tanzin Rinpoche's sangha: "Paying for teachings. One of the issues that came up in informal discussion with other Sangha members during the retreat in Warsaw, was the subject of people refusing to pay for the teachings and empowerments. Maybe this refusa...

Re: Books for a beginner

Hi, It looks like the first book (https://www.amazon.com/Feeding-Your-Demons-Resolving-Conflict/dp/0316013137) is not technically a manual for doing a Chod practice, but rather a practice grounded in Chod that was developed by Tsultrim Allione... I'm not sure if, considering this, the practice does...

This doesn't answer your questions, but have you heard about this place? They seem to believe in Buddhism and gardening being compatible.

Here's what I'm thinking of. http://www.liscdc.org/our-work/. It's across the country but this is just the Washington DC/Baltimore area page of the organization. They take funding from big banks as a result of the Community Reinvestment Act and other large non-profit funders and invest in local com...

Re: Andrew Yang is running for President. Who?

"Unscrupulous" kind of describes American Business Practices, doesn't it? It was thought out, not sure if "well" is applicable. It was quite organized - it doesn't become a giant, lucrative scam, big enough to crash the world economy, without being very well organized. In a nutshell, at the core, t...
