Re: Showing your real picture

So, maybe it is time for the members to show their faces? Drop the good old symbolic icons to prove you are a Buddhist. I would like to see more lovely faces on here, maybe we even can be friends. How cool is that, really? I think it's generally a bad idea, and maybe a little irresponsible in some ...

Re: original buddhism

Really nice article. There is primordial Buddhism, and then the historical Buddha, and before and after, many others. The nice thing about Buddhism per se to me is that there is no major contradiction in any of this. No need to argue about who is the true prophet or enlightened master. Enlightenment...

Re: Showing your real picture

Is your real name "Kristen"? Well, I even posted my Facebook profile. I am not so worried about internet, the scammers cannot use my identity for anything. Yes, it is Kristen. I'm not worried about anyone here, Buddhists or spammmers, but I do retain a little anonymity because of working for what i...

Re: Showing your real picture

After reading that thread on anonymity, I'd really like to change my name to Kristen, but I can't seem to find out how. Anyhew, thanks Odysseus.

Hi Tharpa. Welcome. Hi. Also, for what it's worth I have a degree in Asian Studies with an emphasis on Indian Buddhism from University of Texas in Austin and took two years of Sanskrit. I really don't know much, but the fascination remains one of my greatest passions in life. I think having this ki...

Re: who's ngondro is it anyway

I've yet to dream of scorpions coming out of my head. Guess I need to do more Ngondro. It's hard to say anything as a newcomer here without feeling like a complete idiot. I have had a lot of challenges with doing ngondro. Best thing I ever did was work through it and not entirely give up. I ...

Re: Dilgo Khyentse on mushrooms

I recently met a guy named Mike Crowley who wrote a book called, "Secret Drugs of Buddhism." From what I heard, there's a hallucinogenic drug method/aspect of Buddhism that remains a secret because those Lamas who know about it don't feel western students are ready for it. I don't know what evidence...

Only 105? We were 114 yesterday, but now it's "cooling" down to 100.

hi there

Hi (again?) My name is actually Kristen and I am pretty new here. I am completing Ngondro with my Nyingma teachers and group in Santa Cruz, California area. But, I live two hours from there and where I reside there really are no other Buddhists, unfortunately. I'm hoping to find in this forum a grou...

Re: Ivanka sits in for Trump at G20

About Trump himself: I remember Dalai Lama said something like"Who is president, this is not important." I would think there is not so much difference who is president, their power is limited. The more important thing is to find happiness and peace. Trump may seem "crazy" but I don't think you Amer...

Re: Dudjom Dzambala Practice

All that being said, I believe the Lama Who is giving the Lama Norlha empowerment you referred to is Lama Sonam and He is a really, really, really good and authentic Lama. So I am not in any way criticizing Him. I'm more talking about the bind we find ourselves in here in the Kaliyuga where everyth...

Re: Ivanka sits in for Trump at G20

I was very disturbed to see that in the news, yet, not surprised! An un-Buddhist observation I made when seeing her at the summit was how much of a "resting bitch face" Ivanka has. That's a term here in the US. She always looks so mean and unfriendly.
