Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

(...) Even supposing Jesus and his mom were emanations of Avalokiteśvara and Tārā, respectively, this does not mean that they were able to teach a liberative path in those forms. (...) Except that if Jesus was an enlightened being then praying to him in the bardo will have exactly the same effect a...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

As far as I can tell, Christians, Catholics, etc., worship some sort of asura, and they are welcome to do so, but look at the massive scale of bloodshed that has occurred as a result. I'm aware that the asura argument normally comes up in this discussion, which is why I posted that "Religion and Vi...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

And the OP was certainly a valid and legitimate good question. I felt like people will be at loggerheads with this topic and that maybe it is not so productive. Conversation can be productive, but sometimes it also exacerbates tension. Strictly speaking the original question was kindly answered by ...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

Btw, Garchen Rinpoche shares ChNN's opinion on Jesus and Mary, too. As does Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche. And at least one of TUR's sons. And, at least when it comes to Mary, Lopon Ogyan Tanzin Rinpoche. I could go on, but of course there is no point. Those who reject these equivalencies/similarities/af...

... but look at the massive scale of bloodshed that has occurred as a result. Hmm, ja, of course there have been horrible things done in the name of Christian Churches, but Tibetan history isn't all lovey-dovey either, and you wouldn't stop being a Buddhist because of what's happening now in Burma....

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

They're just being kind. Nah, not Chhimed Rigdzin. He was brutally honest. He would not have said it if he hadn't meant it. Also, when Tibetans say such things out of courtesy they make a meaningless blah blah statement like "x is a good spiritual teacher" but they don't say things like "I'd ...

Are you making the assertion that use of the term “unconditioned” renders all traditions that use the term compatible?
Nope, of course not.

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

it is explained that it is not an object nor a subject. I know. I'm just not aware that Meister Eckart speaks of this soul's spark as a substance, and just because he calls it unconditioned doesn't mean it has to be wrong or completely opposed to the Dharma, because Buddha-nature is also unconditio...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

This business about the soul”s spark is exactly the atman Buddha refuted. Surprised you don’t get that. There is no dependent origination here, no emptiness, etc, just an assertion of an unconditioned substance called a soul. Are you saying that Buddha-nature is dependent on causes and conditions?

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

ChNN must not have gotten the memo since, apparently, he considers Jesus to have been an enlightened being. Neither has Chhimed Rigdzin Rinpoche. He once said during a teaching that Jesus was a high Bodhisattva and if he'd enter the room, he, CRR, would immediately step down from his throne and pro...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

It tried to point out that the guys you mention don't belong to the christian mainstream. OK, to that I can agree. I just don't think their status within the Catholic church is comparable to that of Batchelor in Buddhism. The Bible is a result of that process. It also reads like this. How that can ...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

What is ChNN referring to with "base" here? I mean, which Tibetan term corresponds to it? Gzhi, not kun gzhi. Ah, thx! PS: I was going with the entry from the RY Wiki, the part that I've marked blue: alaya - all-ground. Literally, the 'foundation of all things.' The basis of mind and both pure and ...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

Not sure if I'm getting your point here, Karma_Yeshe. What I said was that some, or actually quite a few Christian Theologians have an understanding of God that is compatible with Buddhist teachings about the alaya / kun gzhi. If you say that some others don't, OK, it doesn't really contradict me, d...

Oops, sorry, I just noticed I wrote Augustin, actually I meant Aquinas, Bishop Barron quotes him quite often in this context.
