Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Is the practice text for Changchub Dorje's Shitro available through the Shang Shung stores or website? He's given the formal initiation and the lung a few times. Thanks, Jason No, I hope they will make booklet one day. Rinpoche gives the tibetan text of the sadhana if you ask and some people have d...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

At a local shop, I have found a very nice statue of Samantabhadra in union with his consort, but am deciding whether to buy it. Is this the sort of image that might be helpful for any DC practices? There is an opening in the base, so I would probably also have it ritually filled by a local monk qua...

Could someone explain what is korwa tontrug usually good for? (besides enlightment :jumping: )
Compassion generally. ChNNR teach about ways to bless water that can benefit others and how to make a tagdrol. It is also used in a ChangChog (to benefit the dead).

Re: Teacher & Root Guru

Didn't even Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche give direct introduction to a thousand people at once? Actually, this question, essentially, was raised in the comment thread. EPK's, admittedly somewhat enigmatic, response was: "About pointing-out, different teachers have different approaches." Actually it makes ...

Re: Teacher & Root Guru

EPK's Club Nondualité article is worth reading with regards to this issue. E.g.: When Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche was once asked to give pointing-out instruction to a group of many thousand people, he simply laughed of the absurdity, because nondual mind needs to be authenticated by the teacher and he kn...

Does the guru know when the student is being introduced?
And yes, I was not having a 1:1 rather a 1:x situation in mind.
Yes, he knows because he also check your experience.

Re: Teacher & Root Guru

Thanks for sharing the link. I however cannot find a response to my question. Me feeling introduced into the nature's mind doesn't automatically mean the guru registers? Or does he? If you are alone with him, then yes, if in a big group I think not. But I am not a master that give direct introducti...

Re: A different look at Guru Yoga

I hope he does get a piece of Rigpa, it would probably be a huge improvement and heal some of what's gone on. That said, I still don't excuse what appear to me to be obvious face-saving behaviors under the guise of a "teaching" on Guru devotion etc. I agree, it should not be that hard to simply cal...

Re: Can a complete beginner benefit from Dzogchen practice?

And they still couldn't get along! This was part of my point. That is correct although I have read of Tibetan retreats where people did live in separate (but possibly shared) rooms. I was shocked to see a video from a 3 year nuns retreat in which they were all actually in the same room. Kirt I thin...

Re: A different look at Guru Yoga

The difficulty I have with DJKR's response is that he is willing to play the "vajrayana teacher" card and tell us where we are going wrong, but then goes coy and "who-are-any-of-us-to-judge" when it comes to Sogyal. I understand, of course, that he's moving to get a good slice of what will remain o...

Re: Karma Kagyu refuge tree

I have a pair I brought when I mistakenly visited Tibet. Mistakenly? How did that happen? I started off in Hong Kong with a friend of mine and then took a three day boat to Shanghai. During the trip I met some western students (women) studying in China. One of them was studying Tibetan Language and...

Re: Can a complete beginner benefit from Dzogchen practice?

It is true, there are many sad stories about people loosing their minds in retreat. I thought loosing your mind was the whole point? https://dhammawheel.com/download/file.php?id=2654&sid=234a354480f0e25eb2cb75b2f3be4e1a  developing a psychosis then. Re: Can a complete beginner benefit from Dzogchen practice?

I am mostly trying to understand what can be so horrible in a retreat that will scar someone for life and make them stop practicing. The same thing that is horrible outside of the retreat: your mind. The problem is that apparently in some cases the retreat makes it worse. It is true, there are many...

Re: Can a complete beginner benefit from Dzogchen practice?

Lama Norlha wouldn’t allow his people to do solitary retreats because without irritating people to provoke your defilements you might believe you’re getting somewhere. With irritation you see how your mind really is. From personal experience I can tell you that when you are in solitary retreat you ...

Re: Can a complete beginner benefit from Dzogchen practice?

That's some serious retreat time. Even Tibetans have to respect those numbers. Are those people teaching? Still on retreat? Any public profile? Any chance of getting them to start posting here? I know a half dozen that have done (2) 3 year retreats. And I know of one woman on her 3rd 3 year retreat...
