Incidentally the late Akong Rinpoche said that CTR was in many ways a pioneer and an extraordinary teacher but that he had breached samaya long before he reached the West so that in effect he was not a guru and had no students in the traditional sense.
Can we have some details?

Vima Nyingtik doesn't go through Padmasambhava. Also Semde and Longde.
Semde and Longde go through Vairochana.

Which yidams can one NOT go to the essence with (G.Y.o.W.A., S.S., M., Ded.)? Generally speaking, deities that are not from Anu yoga practices. That is a really weird statement, what would stop you "going to the essence" with a non Anu yoga deity? /magnus Ok, maybe you mean "going to the essence" a...

Processing and rationalizing Shambhala's history is much more harder in the context of Vajrayana.
No, I don't think so.

CT and his successors had public support endorsements from the heads of Kagyu and Nyingma. Moreover, they abused alcohol. They couldn't even keep the precepts... what about the vows and samayas? The lama linked above just had some affairs with some students, his negative impact on Dharma is much le...

Re: Is Monastic Ordination the Better Option for Single Dzogchen Practitioners?

Yes, some even overtly offer options. For example Fire Sword of Black Garuda offers both in-front and self-gen (for those with an HYT empowerment). Having both a front and self-visualisation is common in Mahayoga. /magnus I assume those with HYT empowerment can choose to do either? In some rather l...

Not sure how I feel about it quite yet. It seems sincere but also not quite fully owning up to everything at the same time. I find it difficult to imagine anything better at this point, but it will come down to what he actually do. I hope for the sake of the Shambala community that Rinpoche can wal...

Re: Is Monastic Ordination the Better Option for Single Dzogchen Practitioners?

Then they are not lower practices. Which is why I said "technically". I have seen Sutra level sadhana that describe a "lower" tantra approach but have small print saying: "Well, you could do it like this, like [insert name of realised master] did". Yes, some even overtly offer options. For example ...

Guru Yoga in the DC means resting in the recognition of the natural state.

This is what Guru Yoga ultimately means in all Vajrayana traditions. ;)

Re: Is Monastic Ordination the Better Option for Single Dzogchen Practitioners?

I wanted to help, that is all. Maybe it is just me who thinks that attempting to practice two different curriculums from two different transmissions while living as a monastic in a monastic setting might present some potential for confusion. Okay, I get your point now. But one would not need to con...

Yes, I can't help thinking the 'no more doubt' of the 2nd of Garab Dorje's statements isn't best attained that way. Integration after stabilisation doesn't seem to me to be improved by being a monk or having a monastic routine. Nevertheless, I know a lot of monastics practicing Dzogchen. Most of th...

Sadhanas don't block you from recognising the natural state, if that was so then "integration" in ordinary life would be impossible. But if you are a beginner then everything can be an obstacle and feel very difficult. Monastic normally goes in to extended retreat in order to attain the stability n...

Re: HHST Chakrasamvara qoute

Usually when the Buddha Vajradhara taught a tantra, he manifested as the deity and mandala then dissolved it. However, the Chakrasamvara tantra was taught (in part) to subdue Shiva, Uma, and their retinue at the 24 sites, so the Buddha did not dissolve the mandalas after the tantra was taught to ke...
