Correct days to practice Sojong

Hello all. I'm a bit confused as to the days Sojong is practiced. Is it the day before the full and new moon or the day of?

Thanks.

Re: incarnation in families

But if there are two candidates, one from a poor family and one from a rich, and the rich is chosen, and then this happens often, it sounds strange. While at times it was surely politically motivated it also isn't always a rigged contest. Sometimes the rich child may be the correct incarnation. I d...

Re: incarnation in families

So if the wealth/worldy influence is such a big thing, does this undermine the whole Tulku thing? It creates some suspiciousnes and doubt in me. I think it's important to remember that in modern society we have a rather cynical, but not always unwarranted view, of the social/economic elite. But thi...

Re: incarnation in families

Or possibly because being reborn into a wealthy family was a favorable rebirth. The Buddha wasn't born into a farming family either.

Re: Bodhi seed malas

Is there an official word on where the spacers/divider beads go? I notice the mala is often split into 4 equal sections but I was looking to put the spacers at 21 for things that are chanted to that number.

Re: Sukhāvatī in the Lotus Sutra

I've long wondered why the Buddha predicted that these Bodhisattvas would spend many lifetimes serving many Buddhas before attaining Buddhahood, if he could have instead told them to just be reborn in the Pure Land and attain Buddhahood more quickly. Different times, different sects, I assume. Peop...

Re: who's ngondro is it anyway

You don't think that ngondro is a practice developed and related through the Tibetan culture? Westerners are not naturally disposed to this kind of practice and resistance seems quite natural to them. I like what Malcolm said: Practicing Dharma is better. What about it exactly would westerners have...

Re: Creating an aversion to the Dharma in someone

My primary question was quite simple: Am I causing harm to the subtler parts of this coworkers mind through her aversion to said mantra. It's her Karma that affords her to receive the dharma in this fashion. reminds me of those beings that see everything as puss and vomit. That's an interesting poi...

Re: Creating an aversion to the Dharma in someone

How would you behave if your colleague let you hear all day long some sura, or hindu mantras to "creates good connection for you to get closer to the truth" ? You would surely be pissed off. Well, that's the problem. Everyone has it's truth, and think he is right and the other needs to listen to it...

Re: Creating an aversion to the Dharma in someone

Perhaps this has turned into a debate about work place etiquette but it's not the question I asked. I'm not trying to indoctrinate anyone and I am playing the mantra for the purpose of my personal practice not to benefit or harm my coworkers. The topic has turned into a debate on work place conduct....

Re: Creating an aversion to the Dharma in someone

That's the audio yep. Though I'll note a couple things, firstly that it isn't my bakery, I am neither an owner nor a supervisor subjecting this poor helpless soul to horrific sounds that produce blood from the ears in those affected. Secondly, I am not in the United States. And thirdly, and I can no...

Re: The Importance of Religious Faith

Since my wife is non-religious, I am not allowed to teach our children about Buddhism until they are old enough to study the scriptures for themselves, which I guess is for the best. I stand by my claim. If the study and practice of the Dharma has a positive or transformative effect on your life th...

Re: Creating an aversion to the Dharma in someone

Boda, I'm pretty lucky to have control over my own music in my own space but headphones I think would be a step too far. I still need to communicate with coworkers and the like. But it's a worthy suggestion. Dzochungpa, I am listening to something I found on YouTube. The mantra is recited by Su Chin...

Creating an aversion to the Dharma in someone

So a little bit of context here. I'm a baker and I've taken to listening to the mantra of Green Tara at work. I work with a young lady whose rather sick of it (she has not expressed this sentiment to me). She does not work directly beside me and I never force anyone to listen to it if they don't wis...

I'd say spend most of your energy realizing the essence found within all those sutras then once you have realized truth you can work on converting the masses through example. I've gotten most of my malas from these fine folks http://www.destinationom.com . They are local to me (I'm in Vancouver and they're on Salt Spring island) and I have a good degree of trust in them.
