We're talking about ngondro here; so standard Vajra Guru mantra.

However, if one is a Longchen Nyingthig practitioner, one can do another 10 million with Rigdzin Dupa and/or Thigle Gyachen.

Re: Kagyu Ngondro/ Dzogchen transmission?

At first my Teacher told me to say the VG mantra 100,000. When I did, He said great but the real way is to say 1,200,000. When I did, He said great but Patrul Rinpoche's oral lineage (Pa-trul sung-gyud) is 10 million times. It's said that saying the VG mantra 1,200,000 insures rebirth in Zangdo Pal...

Re: question on distingushing mind from it's nature

I think this thread was a great discussion, but at this point I will bow out. Mainly because I'm not informed enough to try and argue these important points. And I've already exposed myself as a jackass know it all.

So here is the million dollar question: if thoughts and concepts are not also of the nature of mind, if they can only be born of delusion, then has EVERYTHING that has been said and quoted in this thread purely delusional?
Drenpa addressed a similar point earlier in the thread here.

Most of the time Buddhist literature and teachers ask you to focus on the breath. Is there any other meditation object that may be quite as effective in creating jhanic states like piti or sukha?

:anjali:
One could use a Shakyamuni Buddha image for example.

H.H. Sakya Trichen will be giving Vajrayogini Teachings in New York.

I can't attend but it looks like a great opportunity for those who can.

"Butchers, prostitutes, those guilty of the five most heinous crimes, outcasts, the underprivileged: all are utterly the substance of existence and nothing other than total bliss." The Supreme Source - The Kunjed Gyalpo The Fundamental Tantra of Dzogchen Semde Seems to me that it is exactly what it...

Re: question on distingushing mind from it's nature

1) You cited the metaphor of crystal/prism. 2) Your sig in no way shape or form indicates that concepts = rigpa. 3) Why is there the critical need for Rushen - to separate Samsara & Nirvana if they are the same thing? "Butchers, prostitutes, those guilty of the five most heinous crimes, outcasts, t...

Re: question on distingushing mind from it's nature

This might be relevant to the discussion. The Six Exspanses : The manifestations of unobscured, profound lucidity and beings' fixated thought patterns-- these two are similar, so similar that this could lead to quite an error. And Longchenpa chapter 10 of Treasury of Dharmadhatu : In brief, meditati...

Re: question on distingushing mind from it's nature

The Kungyed Gyalpo seems to disagree. The metaphor of light refracted through a prism comes to mind. Citation, please. My signature. ;) In any case, speaking metaphorically the refracted light from a crystal can be the basis of error, while the crystal in and of itself cant; even though th...

Re: question on distingushing mind from it's nature

I would say there is a point, because in reality thoughts are none other than the nature of mind. It would be a false dichotomy to say there are thoughts and there is the nature of mind. As far as I am concerned seeing into the nature of thoughts, is the same as experiencing the nature of mind. In ...

Anybody have a high resolution image of the Shitro mandala? Hi Sennin, Did anyone send it to you? I’m sorry to say that I dont have it. I just wanted to acknowledge your question - I’ve seen it languishing here for a while. Maybe you could link to a low res version so people know what you’re lookin...

Re: Question for those who carry a mala in daily life

That's interesting to hear. Though I think it may vary from person to person, when telling who one's Master is, one will likely either feel great gratitude and devotion, otherwise it may puff up their pride even more. I have seen several people who like to bring up the topic in order to do a little...

Re: question on distingushing mind from it's nature

Could be a Mahamudra question too: Once a person begins to have some confidence in distinguishing mind from it's nature, is there any particular point in working with conventional thoughts and appearances in meditation anymore, rather than simply resting in the nature of mind? Is it now time to exa...

Re: Question for those who carry a mala in daily life

Yes, there are many ways and different ways. There are even some ways that one does not need to plays with dolls. I heard that Vajrayana students train their minds in different emotional places. Does one need to discard his or her pride while entering into the rest room? Does one need to discard hi...
