Another log on the fire,
10,000 frogs singing in the rain,
burst into flames.

Re: Dont follow a lineage (etc.), follow a teacher

hmmm, I trust my teacher to be exactly who they are, no assumptions about that. then, I remembered my teacher used to say: "you can learn from a bad teacher". I trust myself, same. I guess I was lucky that I came to the dharma halfway thru life.... life dissolves some of that naivete. just two days ...

Wayfarer.... you might check out Susan Murphy, Roshi in Sydney.... http://zenopencircle.org.au/about/roshi-susan-murphy/ I've sat with her twice in CA sesshin.... I have affinity with her, but too many miles... I agree, most important is to find a teacher you can relate to.... best wishes linda I ha...

how can you give someone an illusion? that's the dependent part, isn't it? My first non-Buddhist teacher talked about "hand in glove".

Re: Looking ahead...(split from ZFI topic)

I thought that Meido was talking about confidence in one's tradition/practice.

my teacher always said.... it's none of my business what others think/say about me. as a teaching it works. ofc, we have relationships that need to be taken in also.

Andrew Harvey is great. I saw him 30 years ago when he was teaching at CIIS... somehow the word got out that we could come even tho we weren't officially in the class. only back then....

Re: The DJKR Topic

Long before Sogyal's actions were fully public, I heard about them. As with the zen masters, it's never secret. I've never seen him tho he used to come out to Lake County, CA and I know people. Still, I read his book... brilliant. Little did I know... I thought cut off one's head was a way of referr...

Re: By way of welcome: Let's drink some tea!

always liked that story! Let's have tea! Every morning at sesshin, we started with a small bit of green tea served in the dojo.... same for beginning after lunch. Such traditions stay with me, tho I'm a coffee person in the am at home. If I had known about the aging thing with puehr, I would have ke...

Re: Buddhas only see other Buddhas

new here, I hear Malcom saying Buddhas see only Buddahs. I'm a half-breed... I thought that seeing the Buddha in everyone was a common practice in Tibetan. (a teacher suggested that) Nearly 20 years ago, I went to the Safeway (grocery store) in Healdsburg, CA without a lot of thought and fell ...

Re: Looking ahead...(split from ZFI topic)

..... Teachers are where you find them, and one must be open to teaching. lovely sharing by all about teachers and crossing boundaries in traditions. ofc, I've heard a bit of heartache, but I carry no baggage/knowledge from past happenings. others do. Beyond all these considerations, cau...

Re: “My Three Years on the Soto Zen Buddhist Association Board: a Brief Reflection”

dear heart, as I see it, there are not real reasons for anything. don't miss the core of what James said: And, most of all, I’m concerned about the possibilities of Zen for a fulfilled life. I see it as one of the true ways. It is powerful. It is lovely. And it is a most human enterprise. So, it is ...

as I said, I've not been following this.

As I understand, what DJKR said is the source of this suffering. Have his actions been a subject of suffering also.... ie, has he acted unethically?

Re: Interview with Malcolm on Wisdom Podcast

thanks for posting this...

two things stand out for me as meaningful translations.

samadhi... holding steady

rigpa... vidya or knowledge of the base

most of this is beyond me, except for this. I"m not a scholar.
