Re: Open call for Moderator suggestions

Unfortunately, the mod team is not for everyone - especially once people get an idea of the requirements for the job. As a result, we're going to have to reopen this call for new moderators. Thanks in advance.

The "ya" means "i give to" or "i entrust [myself] to" in the nembutsu.
Do you have a source for this?

In most explanations, the "i entrust" is "namo".

According to this, "ya" is "to", where as "namo/namah" is "entrust".

Re: Why we wish to be reborn in Sukhavati

Personally, I think it's fine to pitch it as saving yourself because in the process you'll come to appreciate saving others. There are statements in all 3 Sukhavati sutras that there are Arahats in Sukhavati. So personal liberation is a possibility. The lifespans are so long there that it's impossib...

Re: Critic to pure land buddhism as a way of scape reality

If we can’t save ourselves, how are we expected to save others? Pure Land has a high bar on what it means to save oneself. Merely putting on appearances of being good; without penetrating wisdom and infinite, naturally-emanating compassion is not good enough to escape Samsara, let alone to rescue ot...

Re: Quotes from Pure Land Masters about non-self, impermanence and emptiness

Some quotes from the Pratyutpanna Samadhi Sutra: The Buddha said, “Bodhisattvas in this land can see Amitābha Buddha by thinking intently only of Him. When they see Him, they can ask, ‘What Dharma should I uphold in order to be reborn in Your land?’ Amitābha Buddha will reply, ‘Those who wish to be ...

Is that Moderation Discussion Sub-Forum already online? I can't see it.
Not yet. Should be soon though! ;)
Actually it should've been up for days now.
Will have to double check permissions.

Re: Other Power and 4 Mindfulness Bases

Chandrakirti doesn't talk of 他力 at all in the Taisho. So it's not a topic he deals with himself and not something directly reconciled with the 4 bases of mindfulness. Nagarjuna talks about 他力 once in T1521 十住毘婆沙論 Dasabhumika-vibhasa It's talked about in the Avatamsaka and quite a bit in the Lanka. S...
