Re: Question for those who carry a mala in daily life

I try to be not too dogmatically about these things. What is the purpose of having a mala around my wrist? I have it, because I use it for practice... remembering emptyness and Dharma. If I carried the mala in my bag, I would never find it when I need it. So, the pupose of this mala is to remember D...

Re: Consciousness - is it really ever ‘switched-off’

Are we ever really in a mental state where consciousness is totally absent? For example, when fast asleep (or meditating) doesn’t our biological defence mechanism ensure that - if an unusual / unexpected noise occurs in our home, or outside our window - we ‘register it’ and (at least partly) increa...

Re: Vivid Dreams

Only once in my life I had a dream that seemed to be vivid. In this dream it was a beautiful day, birds were singing and ths gentle sun of early summer was shining greenish through tree leaves. A very old couple invited me for tea and we happend to talk about my future. The couple was very friendly ...

Re: Are men or women more interested in Enlightenment?

justsit, yep, you are correct, not u.s. well then, it's nice to know! i wish they be a tad more open about it, even if only here on DW because it's really inspiring - at least to me as a male. perhaps it would be inspiring for other women as well who are at spiritual crossroad at their lives.. some...

Re: Why don't "enlightened masters" work together?

Have any examples of recognized, enlightened masters working with each other across traditions? https://www.dalailama.com/search/results?q=meeting+religious+leaders&x=0&y=0 Interfaith meetings are quite different. They are about the heads of different religious traditions talking with each other ab...

Re: Why don't "enlightened masters" work together?

I think you are mistaken. Many teachers work together both within and across traditions and even with other non-Buddhist teachers. :good:
This is exactly what I wanted to say. It's often a mistake to confuse the followers with the master.

Re: Welcoming Anagarika Ficus into the Sangha

They are sentient in their own certain way. A German forester, Peter Wohlleben, investigated about the teamwork between the trees of a forest and he found out, trees in a forest are working together like a social network. https://www.peter-wohlleben.de/?set-culture=en I think, trees are wise. They a...

Re: Question about Sang offering

I saw a sang offering where tea or sfran water was poured into the fire. But I never received any teaching about sang offering. So, this pouring water into fire could mean anything. Maybe it is an offering or something completely different.

Re: How are you?

Now I have to pack my things for a little local stage - we're gonna give a concert tonight. What instrument do you play, Ayu? What kind of music? I'm a musician/performer too, and have had to perform with an awful cold/flu thingie. It was harrowing! I am a singer in an acapella band. We are trying ...

Re: Are men or women more interested in Enlightenment?

Sadhaka, I never doubted that... And it's off topic, yes. I forgot to add: in my sangha there are 90% women as students. There are as many female translators as male. We have eight German nuns and three Tibetan monks. German monks are seldom and they quit more easily. On the German wikipedia startpa...

Re: Are men or women more interested in Enlightenment?

2nd chance, your observations have nothing to do with women's interest in Dharma. Women's minds are similar to man's. They are persons, human beings, with a similar mind as everybody else. Your observation is caused by the general neglecting of women. They are simply forgotten, nobody looks at them ...

Just a casual thread to say hey. Stay warm. . Hey. I've caught a cold, but I can handle it with some grandmother's remedies - eucalyptus, salt water steam inhalation, tea. Re: Tibetan Masters' advice on dealing with loneliness

That sounds very romantic, Queequeg. For me, in my life, there is a difference between sangha friends and daily friends. Of course some contact to a sangha and especially to a good teacher is important for my spiritual practice - but it does not happen I could see them on daily base. In day ...
