Re: escape from samsara

SunWuKong; I ‘get’ sunyata and the identity of samsara/nirvana. My question is different (and I apologize that I haven’t asked it well); that is, given all you say and all the Buddha taught, how is it that one can escape the round of becoming? It seems that even the Buddha, who was awakened, was su...

Re: Have you tried Holotropic Breathwork?

You’re the one who brought it up so, whatever you mean by it. I don't think I said anything about "religious context", I said teaching the techniques removed from any context or larger view. "Religious" is your label here, you can own it. It is a loaded label in Western culture, and II try not to u...

Re: Have you tried Holotropic Breathwork?

Does a meditation technique mean very little when removed from a religious context? If so, doesn’t that mean it’s merely a ritual. We'd have to get into what a "religious context" is to answer that question, that's a broad category. There are certainly some teachers who teach in a way that goes aga...

Re: Dzogchen and Mahamudra: differences and similarities

No, also the body of light is realized in the result, mahamudra. The body of light is also realised in sutrayana since ultimate view in sutras maintained that Buddha Sakyamuni has never enter Mahaparinirvana, it is due to obscuration of beings that we see otherwise. Oh that is brand new to me that ...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Yeah but I think it's because Rinpoche was giving transmission for them. I suspect they don't want people attending who don't already have transmission (like Mantrik mentioned). You mean because Rinpoche gave a DI on those retreats? There is no lung for Rushens right...so you mean they just didn't ...

It's one of the afflictions, best not to personalize it is as "I am arrogant" and to realize that there is no essential arrogance. I find that contemplating all the help I have received can undermine arrogant thoughts. Understanding that one's accomplishments as such are not really one's own helps a...

Re: Have you tried Holotropic Breathwork?

Your meager talent for mind reading aside, your statement is self contradictory. A technique implies a purpose. I wasn't trying to mind read at all, but it's telling that you think I was. What? It’s just an expression. Technique definitely does not imply purpose, particular in terms of spiritual an...

IDK, I have felt this way about our last administrations as well, they were just much better a PR. In terms of negatively effecting the lives of people around the world, despite being personally abhorrent, I am not sure Trump approaches anything like the level of the W presidency yet, nor have we ha...

I think there are breathing techniques is some Buddhist traditions that are based in the same principle.
There are, they exist in various forms of yoga...however, removing them from their context in those systems is pointless, when you learn them in those you are not just trying it to try it.

True
How is that even relevant to what we are talking about, other than to bring up some issue with Islam?

Buddha is not for decoration ii.png Buddha is not for decoration.png You come across these signs quite often in Thailand. There were even billboards. IDK, I've known more than a few people here that have come to Dharma due to their initial reactions to decorative Buddhas. Like anything else though,...

There's a post going around on social media addressing the depictions of Buddha, Tara, and some yidams being placed on bathing suits, skirts, shirts, etc. and people are expressing “outrage” and are calling for a boycott of Amazon who is selling this merchandise. As practitioners I would think folk...

Re: Yidams on a bikini

I don't like it. I think people's overzealous reaction is kind of silly too, but it's pretty stupid. I don't really see a point in trying to do anything about it, but I feel that very few people will likely benefit from it. Who knows though, I could be wrong and perhaps someone will experience liber...
