Re: One truth?

Provisionally it actually makes more sense to accept the possibility that there may be more than one mountain, Too bad you couldn't just visit all the mountaintops to see which view you liked the most before making a down payment! Although I guess you can get a feeling for them by reading/watching ...

Re: One truth?

So you're saying that iyo:

There is no "universal other shore" that all forms of authentic awakening bring one to ... rather that the awakened state in each tradition is tinted with the hue of that tradition: its culture, doctrines, views.

Re: One truth?

... for you Madhyamaka is a true means to reveal the alleged truth of Vedanta. This doesn't ring a bell. I wouldn't even know how to start using emptiness as a tool to reveal brahman! It's a big enough challenge to get them to play nicely with one another, let alone have one serve the other. Do you...

The original question is, IMO, a deep waste of time, no offense of course.
No offense taken. Your IMO makes it clear that you're just sharing your view, not trying to refute mine. Non zero sum, my kind of game!

your inclination towards Vedanta is your inclination towards truth and vv.
And my inclination towards no-truth is my inclination towards Madhyamaka. I look for the essential sameness of apparent polar opposites.

Re: One truth?

Thanks, everyone, for sharing your takes. So do different traditions point to the same one truth? My provisional conclusion ... it's an interesting question <for those who like to think about things like this>, but not worth putting too much energy into, as it risks prapanca. And I doubt it could ev...

Re: Threaded display option?

Do you mean ... where you can see individual posts that respond to a specific post? I don't think there is that capability with this software. Yes. And yes (I looked it up, phpBB boards are limited to a flat/unthreaded msging structure). For me personally, I don't like that format anyway; it looks ...

Re: One truth?

The fundamental issue with Buddhism is clinging/grasping/craving. Any notion of a self, no matter how profound, is going to activate grasping. Any notion of a not-self too. Or of neither self nor not-self. Any notion, period ... even that of the danger of notions or the liberation of enlightenment....

Which is a sound method for communication and teaching. If an individual/group either won't understand something or won't benefit from it ... don't say it, or frame it in a way that is understandable and beneficial.

Re: One truth?

I'm guessing there is no definitive interpretation for why Buddha left the questions unanswered, yes? On the contrary, in my view, what I said was completely in accord with the intent of the teaching regarding 'undeclared questions'. What I meant was that there is no universally accepted Buddhist i...

In terms of metaphorical 'truth' people are seeking communication in forums because of the deeply ingrained habit to conceive of their thinking as the path to understanding. But they've been guided by their thinking up to the present moment! Where is their understanding caused by their thinking? Th...

Threaded display option?

Is there a threaded display option so that we can reply to a specific message in a topic and display the topic's messages organized into threads? If so, how do I turn it on? If not, why? Threaded messaging makes it so much easier to keep track of individual conversations within a topic. Most forums ...

Consciousness is seeking a home, a basis to abide on, i.e. a truth,
Consciousness is its own home, but the deluded consciousness does not know that.
Per Vedanta, consciousness is not seeking anything ... it's just being conscious. What seeks a home, basis, truth is the mind.
