Re: Yogacara and dzogchen

So my assessment is this: If the 8th consciousness that you have mentioned is emptiness from which there is manifestation then the view of Yogacara and Dzogchen are equal. However there are caveats. This emptiness cannot have any time to it. Neither can it act as a cause. And neither can it have an...

Re: Yogacara and dzogchen

Ok good. So the sense in which Dzogchen and Yogacara are different depends on whether a genuine difference exists in terms of this understanding about the 8th consciousness. If they have the same view about this 8th consciousness then they would be saying the same thing. Is this a fair assessment? ...

Re: Yogacara and dzogchen

I think you mean gyen (rgyan), not gyem. Thanx :thanks: Glossary of DC confirms: gyen ~ rgyan ~ ornament; rolpa ~ rol pa ~ (sambhogakaya-) aspect of energy, a kind of energy of the individual that manifests (only) within our dimension, that which manifests through infinite potentiality, one of the ...

Re: Yogacara and dzogchen

The 'power' as mentioned is the cause. That power (intellect) is of the means, and it is stored as seed in the storehouse. prior to the broken of the “Youthful Vase Body”, this power remained as seed (potential). This is in concordance with what I have stated in previous post. Jyoti Of course it is...

Re: Yogacara and dzogchen

Whereas dzogchen include more...(...direct introduction and upadesa), those details are actually not that important. Since those details have little to do with practice They are actually cruicial and there is really so many to "practise" with them. If one where to analyse after one revert to the ba...

Re: Yogacara and dzogchen

Here you have synthesis on practice of Dzogchen where from the start you have "rigpé tsal wang" and meditation is primordial purity (kadak trekchö) without effort and its spontaneous presence (lhundrup tögal). So they deal even with the first and the second Unenlightenment. "i. Entry Point One’s min...

Re: Yogacara and dzogchen

No different here For me the difference is while Yogacara deals with the duality of apprehender and the apprehended only, Dzogchen includes it but also infinite other "things". Of course these "things to be practiced" were far before the duality is started. I mean before the first and the second Un...

Re: Yogacara and dzogchen

For comparison here you have a quote from my notes on Longchenpa: The terminology of Dzogchen differs from Cittamatra because the primordial purity (Wyl. Ka-dak) of the Basis (Wyl. Gzhi) and the spontaneous accomplishment (Wyl. Lhun-Grub) of the Appearances of the Basis (Wyl. Gzhi-sNang) transcend t...

Re: Yogacara and dzogchen

The intellect (means) also connected to the body, since it is of the reason (vidya) of thusness (body). Jyoti Hi. When you do the delineating of Khorde Rushen in Dzogchen you know what intelelect is very useful for  Obviously not some kind of Yogacara. Considering Dzogchen do not forget to g...

Re: transmissions, ngondro, samaya

Just because all ngondro contain the same elements doesn't mean that you can mix and match those elements as you choose. You are not addressing a point that anyone has suggested. The OP wanted to know if they could change their ngondro practice, for example, and do a different one instead of the on...

Re: transmissions, ngondro, samaya

Nyintig is not the Garab Dorjé lineage of the 3 statements, it's a Vajrayana's terma and a tantric practice. And 3 statements are related to the 3 divisions, Longdé for the 2nd statement ... as to use "any method ...", possibly because it's within the Dzogchen view to use any secondary practice tha...

Re: transmissions, ngondro, samaya

Mmmm, so your saying every Dzogchen practitioner who applys the 3 statements has to practice Longde?! I don't think that's quite right...DI first, then any method that eliminates doubt surly. You can't eliminate doubt with secondary practices. The secondary practices are there to act as fuel for th...

Re: transmissions, ngondro, samaya

Yeah, that's what I was saying, Tulku Urgyen and sons taught/teach like this too. Sonam: Yes, Nyingthig is a Dzogchen term, containing many methods but also always with Trekcho and Togal...including ChNN's own Longsal Nyingthig. Yeah, ok :namaste: Considering the pure dreams of Namkhai Norbu, He sa...

Re: transmissions, ngondro, samaya

However, when you take The Three Statements of Garab Dorje (* Direct Introduction * Do not remain in doubt * Integrate into everyday life), the second states if you had Direct Introduction from the master and you are not sure you really recognized Rigpa yet, you should eliminate all your doubts by ...

Re: transmissions, ngondro, samaya

Mariusz, I believe Roman is talking about a Vajrayana ngondro, not the Dzogchen ngondro as described by Malcolm. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks. :namaste: When I'm looking post made by Malcom, he takes only Rushen as the real Ngondro. However, when you take The Three Statements of Garab Dor...

Re: transmissions, ngondro, samaya

I agree with pensum that, if you begin a ngondro, you should finish that ngondro before starting another. In my understanding from my Teachers, this has to do with ten-drel and lineage. Not finishing a practice commitment can create a tendency to not finish other practice commitments. (This is refe...

Re: transmissions, ngondro, samaya

 Of course. Because from POV of Dzogchen Ngondro is called the ordinary, and Khordo Rushen is called the extraordinary preliminaries. Nearly nobody get Direct Introduction with the recognizing Rigpa without them. "if one had started a ngondro then one should finish the complete number befo...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Dudjom Lingpa is another example of a terton who's treasures came from visions. These were more like day-dreams. New treasures appear because, as Malcolm said, when you practice while the terton is alive, you get tremendous blessing energy. So the new treasures refresh the well so to speak. That's ...
