Re: Buddhist karma yoga
Pema Chophel's post summed it up. Karma Yoga is a Hindu term, and a recent one at that. Just look for "Bodhisattva activity" or"engaged Buddhism" and you'll find a lot.

Re: Tibetan dictionaries?
Some of the online ditionaries are easiest to use. As to paper dictionaries (actually also true of online dictionaries), a lot can depend on what you're going to use it for. To take an obvious example, if you're working with Buddhist stuff, Goldstein is almost useless, but if you want colloquial or ...

Javier is right -- the poin tis to transcend habitual limits of spatial relationships. In the end, though, like all of real vajrayana, i thas to be understood through practice rather than by philosophical or rational means.

Re: Young people are loneliest?
In one of C.S. Lewis' sci-fi novels, he predicted that men and women would someday lie down not with actual human beings, but cunningly-fashioned images of people, and thus avoid real human contact. In the modern industrialized societies of Europe, America, and East and Southeast Asia, young people ...

Emanations in East Asian Buddhism
In Tibetan Buddhism, there is the idea of "emanations" -- that some people "emanate" from higher realms or states of beings into the human world (perhaps related to but not the same as the Tibetan tulkus, the human nirmanakayas who take successive births, seemingly a distinctive feature of Tibetan D...

Re: DNA TESTS
haven't done the testing myself, but a family member has, so based on what I was told, our Indian family is shockingly NOT "the Indian we thought it was," but a mix of Ladakhi and Romany (this by the highest percentage.... Oukei we're gypsies) ... The facility for language is clear in the history o...
Re: DNA TESTS
Are you telling us you have dysentery? But seriously, folks, as interesting as the results of DNA testing might be, I would under no circumstances willingly submit such personal information to a faceless corporation which can be counted on to use it in deleterious ways in the future. People t...

Re: Waterworld
There is nothing that can be done to stop the environmental collapse of the world now, short of a catastrophic and sudden decrease in the human population. Humanity is simply not capable of acting in unison in such a way that disaster could be averted. I would love to be proven wrong, and I will coo...

Re: Definitely not the best time to come back as a donkey
In Thailand, the Chinese are trying to buy all the country's earthworms for their energy drinks, and many farmers ignorant of the role earthworms play in soil health, and many people desperate for a little ready cash, are selling theirs (and poaching from other farmers' lands). In Laos, they have de...

This is fantastic, but Bonpos (and Chospas) should remain aware that in the future, a ready supply of electricity may not be as available as it is now, and should also print as many low-tech copies for distribution as possible.

This should be the final word on the subject.
