Re: Meditation on Love will not break you out of Samsara

Meditation on Love will not break you out of Samsara. The highest realms in all of universe are the immaterial realms where the focus of meditation is no nothingness and infinity of consciousness. When one is attached to the meditation on love, then the highest realms which one can ascend are the rea...

I wish you well in your aspiration to be a Scottish Buddhist monk. Sc...

Re: Martial Arts Talk

Chungdrag Dorje (Steven Seagal) actually has a very good sense of humour and I've no doubt that he would laugh at this video (though perhaps not at the monk killing/Dalai Lama striking parts). I've seen every single one of his movies and screen appearances (admittedly a couple were rough) and I can ...

Re: Buddhist Scholar Paul Williams Conversion to Catholicism

I don't know if that is entirely fair to him. I don't think he's 'extremist'. I think we have certain kinds of inherent understandings - archetypal forms, if you like - that respond in particular ways. I think what happened to Prof Williams is that his deep thinking about Buddhist metaphysical teac...

Re: Buddhist Scholar Paul Williams Conversion to Catholicism

Dr. Williams is an extremist who is convinced that there must be a single supreme truth in religion. He decided on Prasangika-Madyamaka, but after completely failing to convert other Buddhist scholars, he switched to Catholicism. Good luck to him.

Re: Ajahn Brahm for sale?

The Thai Sangha is a council of old, conservative men who wish not to have women in their midst in the Thai sangha. Their position is a faulty one, in that we all know that the Buddha himself, after some persuasion, ordained women into his Sangha. Younger monks generally support female ordination. ...

Re: Ajahn Brahm for sale?

Why would Thailand have so much authority over the bhikkhuni issue? Actually there are some fully ordained bhikkhunis in Thailand, such as Bhikkhuni Dhammananda and a few others. The Buddha wasn't born in Thailand nor did he ever visit it. Sri Lanka has a much older history to Buddhism, especially ...

Re: Ajahn Brahm for sale?

This process could easily take another decade; perhaps longer now thanks to Ajahn Brahm. What process? It is already done. There are already many fully ordained bhikkhunis in the U.S., Canada, India, the rest of Asia and Sri Lanka. It is estimated that there are already over 1,000 fully ordained bh...

Re: Ajahn Brahm for sale?

Instead of attending a conference on female ordination Ajahn Brahm decided to preempt and upstage the conference by ordaining a few of his female followers. How long has the discussion on female ordination been on the agenda? Since 1928! Why? Because they cannot find the prerequisite number of vow ...

Re: Ajahn Brahm for sale?

I think many consider that Ajahn Brahm already went away from the teachings when he started ordaining women as monks. Didn't his own lineage disavow him because of that? Instead of attending a conference on female ordination Ajahn Brahm decided to preempt and upstage the conference by ordaining a f...

Re: Buddhism is peaceful?

So, is there anything that could possibly be in any of Phabongkha's writings that would lead you to believe that he was sectarian, short of explicit instructions to others to actually destroy monasteries, or worse? Or are these "polemics" as you term them merely specific instructions, skillful mean...

Venerable Sir, I accept the facts that you have presented about the sectarian writings of Pabongka Rinpoche, but I do not agree with your interpretation of these facts. According to Lama Zopa of the FPMT, Pabongka Rinpoche"...wrote incredible teachings on sutra and tantra; on Heruka, Tara Cittamani ...

Re: "Attack of the White Buddhists" by Justin Chin

Why is it that the entire world adopts aspects of Western culture, but when Westerners learn from the East they are pilloried as faddish hippies and freaks? Apart from anything else most young Orientals aren't really interested in their own culture, and they are only interested in Western culture. I...
