Re: Dharma of Skating...

Skated on and off from 78-90 and then 95-00, and tried to continue again at some point in the later '00s, but it was just becoming too difficult. Always a street rat,mini-half, and later the more modern style parks. My body just doesn't do that anymore. LOL!

Re: Dharma of Skating...

Big fan and got to hang with him a little one-on-one at a demo many, many years ago. I like the idea where you seem to present a parallel between the dharma and the innovation and ever forward movement present in skateboarding history. I skated in three to four different waves or iterations/developm...

I would say that it should be less about lifting the lama up and more about bringing purity to your mind.

Re: Questions about empowerments and jenang

I may be wrong on this, but a Jenang is a "subsequent permission." Subsequent permission to practice for those who have received Highest Yoga Tantra initiation. For those who have received a full Highest Yoga Tantra initiation, it would enable you to fully engage in practicing (visualisation of ones...

Re: Which Nalanda pandit?

I am sure everyone is different, but my teacher had me study the Four (or Five) great Madhyamaka reasonings and then had me look at where these were utilized in the debate contained within the 6th Chapter of Candrakirti's Madhyamakavatara. Interesting, I could try that as well. Are we talking about...

Re: Are madhyamaka and yogacara considered schools of buddhism?

Madhyamaka and Yogacara are philosophical tenets or views within the Mahayana and Vajrayana schools of Buddhism. While both are assumed philosophical leanings within Tibetan Buddhism, both have their origins in India.

Re: Does Buddhism Require You To Be a Liberal?

From the reading I've done and the few practicing Buddhists I know, I would gather that Buddhism leans to the right socially/politically, but online I see a lot 'hate' toward conservative points of view. Does Buddhism require you to be a liberal? Thanks That's funny almost all of the practitioners ...

Re: Faith & logic

Most teachings speak of three types of faith with "conviction faith" being one to aspire to. I have been taught that the three types are all important and could be thought of as gradual and/or coexisting with each type informing the other. The first type is described as simply having a feeling or be...

Re: Vajrasattva in the Gelug tradition

I know Lama Zopa Rinpoche has been distributing a Vajrasattva purification practice booklet through the FPMT. The emphasis here is on the purification side (four opponent powers) and not on the visualization side. In fact, only the hundred syllable mantra is provided for recitation. Clearly, Rinpoc...

Whatever is perceived is what is dependent. It is because phenomena (things) are dependently arisen that they are perceptible at all. A study of Tenets is vital to understanding these texts and the evolution of Madhyamaka thought and debate with other schools. I feel like there absolutely is somethi...

Re: Are there any schools of Mahayana or Vajrayana Buddhism that do not ascribe to the view that all is one mind?

If you have the time or inclination to study the major Tenet schools and their respective subdivisions within Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism (Vaibhashika, Sautantrika, Cittamatra, Svatantrika, and Madhyamaka) you will find that your statement is an enormous generalization that doesn't hold up. Shau...

The storyteller makes no choice, but soon you will not hear his voice.
His job is to shed light, not to master.

His lyrics were very close to my heart.
