The FPMT homestudy is a much better option.

Re: need centers in my area

No. But on the FPMT website you can study many things on-line. We always record our meetings at Tse Chen Ling and put them on the site. Lama Yeshe founded FPMT with encouragement from His Holiness the Dalai Lama after his passing Lama Zopa has continued with this. I know what you mean about Charlot...

Re: need centers in my area

I go to Tse Chen Ling in San Francisco. We used to have Venerable Robina here and a few others who practice in Raleigh, now. Sorry to hear about your commute. Just think of all of the great karma you're creating for your efforts and maybe someday you can start a study group that will blossom into a...

Re: Tibetan Calendar

Laura, there is a 2011 Tibetan Astrological Calendar available through Itunes as an app. A large portion of the proceeds go to support the Liberation Prison Project one of FPMT's many charitable projects.

Re: need centers in my area

I would love to see new Gelug Centers and study groups across America. That would be great ! I know FPMT starts their centers out as study groups first before becoming a center. Right now I am driving 5 hours round trip to go to the center in Raleigh,NC. And they have started an additional study gr...

Re: Happy Thanksgiving to all!

May we all be able to generate in our mindstream a feeling of immense gratitude toward all mother sentient beings who, since beginningless time, have provided kindness and have been the cause of all our happiness. May we eat this food with the motivation to be of benefit to all sentient beings.

Re: How do monks put up with celibacy?

How does the sexual non-activity prescribed by buddhism affect human evolution ? If the Buddha had taught evolution I would bother Kind regards I feel that one might argue that Buddha taught the evolution of consciousness and that biological procreation is beside the point (obviously both are neces...

I think your answer can be found in Shantarakshita's Madhyamakalankara with commentary by Ju Mipham, trans. by the Padmarkara translation group.

Re: Abhidharmakosa study group?

BTW, I have been lurking about this thread for a little while and has anyone made a decision on where to start? I recall someone suggested Chp 3 of Vasubandhu's Abhidharmakosa, but have yet to see anyone follow up on that suggestion. The activity seems to be limited to Kirt and Will as of late. with...

Re: Abhidharmakosa study group?

Interestingly Asanga's Abhidharmasamuccaya is the presentation of the Abhidharma from a Cittamatrin perspective. In the translators introduction to Shantarakshita's, The Adornment of The Middle Way there is what I have found to be a very good discussion surrounding the Chittamatra point of view as ...

Re: Abhidharmakosa study group?

As taught in Tibetan Buddhism, one cannot attain enlightenment with anything less than the Cittamatrin view so we should really start there (of course Tibetan Buddhism also does say that one needs to study the "lower" to higher schools views: Vaibhasika, Sautantrika, Cittamatra and Madhyamika in th...

Re: Abhidharmakosa study group?

I have a personal interest in Abidharma study as well. Although, I don't know how much I will be able to contribute while I am currently engaged in a study of pramana and its applications in personal reflection, meditation, and debate. However, the Abidharma is becoming more and more of a source for...
