Re: Last judgement

In Buddhism, to be independent is to be free. To be subjected to dependencies is to be in bondage What is independent? Does it matter if one believes in a creator God or not? So there's no God, there is no predestination, etc. You are totally on your own. As is each of us. Does that make you free? ...

Re: Last judgement

I really searched for a delightful image of Guan Yin for my signature. Indeed I pray to Avalokitesvara a lot. I have a deep fondness for Guan Yin even though she's not part of my practice. I think I feel the most for her of any deity. I read Bloefeld's "Bodhisattva of Compassion" and it flavored my...

Re: Luck and Karma

I view luck as winning in a situation of chance, and karma more of a reaping what you sow. This life reaps according to the karma I sowed in a past life, and sowing now what I would prefer to reap in a next life. Ultimately, however, the goal is to eliminate all good and bad karma to liberate yours...

Re: Luck and Karma

Isn't good karma the same as luck often? Or how do you define luck vs karma? As far as I understood the accumulation of merits is for the purpose of having enough luck and less hindrances, in order to be able to follow the Dharma. If I am in misfortune and have no food, no shelter, no medicine, no ...

Re: Clearing up the Pure Land sutras

If, when I attain Buddhahood, humans and devas in my land should not all be of one appearance, and should there be any difference in beauty, may I not attain perfect Enlightenment. If, when I attain Buddhahood, women in the immeasurable and inconceivable Buddha-lands of the ten quarters who, having...

Re: Clearing up the Pure Land sutras

What I want to say is that such sayings as "a woman should rebirth as a man" not only reduces dignity and importance of women's practice but removes the sense of one's life day by day. I wish women to be fighting for the right to have their spiritual practices respected for their worth and their lif...

Re: Clearing up the Pure Land sutras

Yeah, about the women who need to be reborn as men in the Pure Land. It is still believed in Taoism and Buddhism that a woman be more spiritual should imidiately reborn as a man. For example, the prophecied student of Maitreya, a woman is considering to be killed and reborn as a man immediately so t...

That's great. A lot of them seem like very nice people. It's also fortunate for them to be in contact with a Buddhist like you! :)
Thanks

Re: 'What are you saying'?

Teachers are important as they can teach in today's language. I have myself benefited from numerous teachers in various ways. My point is, however, that teachers are not wizards or fairies to magically transform people into buddhas. They can be great examples and explain things lucidly. On the othe...

Re: Tolerance for other religions

Me either. But I have my own experience. People who have a vision of their deity as being wrathful and punishing and angry, well, they tend to have issues. They tend to dislike a lot of people. People who have a vision of their deity as an embodiment of love, are, well, generally loving people. I d...

Re: the psychedelic community: pros and cons

I've never personally been involved with the psychedelic community, but I have been reading articles about them and been watching videos about them for some time (mainly about Terrence McKenna and Alex Grey). Many other threads have discussed drug use, but drug use is only one part of the psychedel...

Yeah, but also I've noticed aggression as a main problem in such cases, especially hidden aggression, it is still there and still corrupting and worsing karma. not addressing aggression is too very karmic, even in other people.

I could make one see, I could make one talk again but bringing inner peace bringing sanity where there isn't bringing it back is difficult. And I am horrified.

in control

I desperately want to put things into control. That is what I like, I hold things into great control, sometimes in an a political, sometimes inhuman or superhuman way, or at least it looks like it now when I lost that control. Losing control is not good and I desperately try to gain it back, that on...

Messiah is relevant to Buddha notion in Buddhism. We should respect religious hierarchies that are pretty clear in both religious, Messiah and Buddha. I hope that goes into your mind.
