Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

There is not much in English as far as I know. There is quite a lot in French and Italian (outside DC). There must be some in german too (still outside DC). I know in French Jean-luc Achard translated the 17 tantras, I don't know if they were published already. But bummer, I don't speak any of thos...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

... HE Khetsun Sangpo gave some instructions on this several times. Tokden Rinpoche (from the Drigung lineage) is well-versed in Longdé too and often quite willing to teach unusual practices (provided you come with the proper credentials). There are several others. Lama Tenzin Samphel should teach ...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

Can you say more about these two? Especially the Kachigmas? What are they? This is a practice coming from Nubchen Sangye Yeshe and Jnanakumara. It's taken from the Longchen Rabjam Tantra and is based on what is defined as skad-cig-ma dang-po shes-pa, meaning the "first instantaneous consciousness" ...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

Well, it is higher then the base, right? LOL yeah, you got me there. :D I have "the precious vase" (the base level) and it does contain a lot of means. I would say that it is all presented as a preliminary (Ngondro) since there is no main part and concluding section in the book. In a normal Dzogche...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

No, I don't think not doing Ngondro is the reason. Anyway some of ChNN's students do Ngondro, like those that reached the higher levels of Santimaha Sangha for example. Like I said it is possibly was an accident waiting to happen. However it makes you think about the point of the traditiona...

Re: Recommend To Me Your Favorite Dzogchen Book

Objective reviews for Dzogchen books can be tough to find, and every Dzogchen book review on Amazon.com is always 4.5 - 5 stars. So what do you all recommend? My favourite is The Crystal And The Way Of Light, it's easy to read and easy to understand. Recently I've been thinking of reading it for th...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

These last 10 years I have seen several people taking the teaching they got from ChNN and then mixed it with all kind of others traditions and new age things and then putting themselves up as Guru's. Giving direct introduction themselves and taking students. I find this very sad. Maybe it was an ac...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

You are right, I didn't mention it in this thread. Erik Pema Kunzang told me that there is a clear description in one of the 18 root Tantras of the instructions section of the Dakinis performing a full Ngondro. If you remember Namdrol , just before e-sangha closed, also said that there was many "Ta...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

Well Sönam if you actually followed what is written in this thread you would know that Ngondro is a part of the Dzogchen cycles and it is even written about it in the 18 root Tantras of the instruction section. Where? Was it mentioned in this thread? Other than Khandro Nyingthig which isn't a root ...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

Like "I will practice Guru yoga because that is real Dzogchen but I will not practice Guru yoga in "Tantric" Ngondro because that is Mahayoga". I think that if one has received Dzogchen instruction then it can be the same, but if one hasn't then it's probably not. no, no, no, I never said you canno...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

I'm surprize the discussion is still going on, and the arguments are still the same, not the slightest change. There could not be any ngondro with Dzogchen, it's antinomic ... about that there could'nt be a real discussion. And to the question ... when you are not in rigpa what do you do? and why n...

Well some sections are very easy, others terribly complex to render into a proper translation. It all depends on your level of Tibetan.
And do you think it is easier than Dra Thalgyur tantra itself?

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

Then read the bTags-grol don-khrid (in the mKha'-'gro snying-thig) which the colophon attributes to Garab Dorje and in which the author states to meditate on impermanence, compassion and bodhicitta. The oral transmission that goes with the texts says that you do your full Ngondro at that stage, bef...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

BTW, I didn't know there was a commentary on Dra Thalgyur by Garab Dorje too. Also, do you read Tibetan? Or where did you get this quote? There is a 2-volume commentary on this text. My mistake, it's attributed to Vimalamitra. Sorry. And yes I do read tibetan. Ahh... Oh there are two volumes? I fou...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

webcasts are wonderful exposure, but don't arm a student with the blessings and introduction needed to practice tantra. Reading books or hearing podcasts, or watching Internet events are not equivalent of receiving the abhishekas. You have to literally be in front of the guru for that. This isn't q...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

Garab Dorje didn't say do Rushan, Semzins or Guru Yoga either, right? Garab Dorje is just discussing the main point of Dzogchen, not how to get there. Yes but Rushan and Semdzins are connected to Direct Introduction, if we didn't "get it" those are some of the main things we should do. I think that...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

Hello old friends, after much delibaration I joined here. I hope you've all been well. :hi: Hmm I don't know where to start after 9 pages... Maybe it'll be kind of backwards haha. Well, I guess what I'd like to say is that I think that Longchen Nyingthig being Dzogchen only is a mistake. As far as I...
