Re: Westerners authorized to give Wongs.

There are indeed Western lamas that give empowerments, but some of them are "self-authorized", and some of them were authorized in one particular tradition, but freely give empowerments from others, or even for practices they have only small acquaintance with. This kind of behaviour is not exclusiv...

Re: This one Facebook post today

No problem. It was just a general contribution to the thread rather than to a specific person. My comments still apply though in terms of the tip of the iceberg. I think Rinpoche is more of the school that says Vajrayana teachings should be kept secret, which is consistent with the OP. I know some ...

Re: This one Facebook post today

Hmm, perhaps there's a slight difference between an ordinary monk sitting on the floor when meeting with his masters and one of the most important tulkus and lineage holders doing so? Perhabs. But this has really not that much to do with the question if DKR is a traditional teacher or not. (Whateve...

The reasons given in the post why DKR is a traditional teacher are not really convincing imo. Every ordinary monk behaves like that. I mean, even myself, I behave like that. And I am certainly not a traditional teacher or have any other qualifications.

Re: Must you regard a refuge lama as your guru?

When I took refuge I did it with the understanding that you should respect that teacher as the person who introduced you to the three gems, but you don't have to view them as a Buddha. Today I read a book (The Heart of the Path: Seeing the Guru as a Buddha) that says your refuge lama should be view...

Without comparing, I'd like to add Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche to the list of teachers the OP should have a look at.

Re: Empowerment Question

I also have another question......If I received an empowerment for a deity from one lineage can I use another lineage's sadhana text for the deity? Thank you. If you have "the lung of the mantra [and sadhana] and the description of the deity, instructions on how to practice and what to do."... Yes!...

Re: Direct Introduction Always Works

You have misunderstood my post. I am not comparing direct introduction to water. I am stating, direct introduction always works because it is direct introduction, it can not be anything else. In the same way that water is always water, it can not be anything else. If something is direct introductio...

Re: Direct Introduction Always Works

Re Penor's comment, yes, water is never troubled if it is asked if it is water (though it cannot imagine the question) and water contextualizes as necessary and helpful. I am not saying that DI or rigpa is not something positive but comparing it with way water works is not really a good ide...

All right, thanks for the explanation. I'll just accept that for now as I'm not sufficiently learned anyway. What would be the best step to take in order to enter the Dzogchen path for one based in Northern Europe, not speaking Tibetan and who is not currently in a position to travel far and wide? ...

4155 is better than 21. This is called Dharma evolution. Now the question is how to communicate with the other 7 billion. Maybe some of the other 7 billion already follow other dharma paths and have no interest in ChNN or no karmic connection. This secretarian attitude of some of ChNNs stud...

Hello Dharma community, I am wondering if I could get some input regarding how I could get the lung and wang for the Longchen Nyingtik sadhanas. Let me give you some background. I have learned from some lamas in the Kagyu tradition, got some basic empowerments for Guru Rinpoche, Chenrezig, but have...

This is merely the Chinese version of a global problem. But what is the actual story behind such ritual ...

I do agree though about it being a warning. If it was planting the seeds of suffering, then the great teachers would teach it.

Re: Dalai Lama about non sectarian approach towards Buddhist study and practice.

No, because Dzogchen contradicts Highest Yoga Tantra and HYT is Buddha's highest teaching and ultimate intention. You know this is wrong. The problem is imo that in a real sense, Dzogchen or Mahamudra cannot be expressed by words. Because when we use words, we are already limiting ourselves. That i...
