Re: dharmas are not inexistent; what about the self?

Greetings klqv, If you mean that literally [that nagarjuna does not mean to say anything about existence and non existence] then i do not understand. the commentaries on nagarjuna mention existence so many times! Only to point repeatedly out that cognition of existence and non-existence are distorti...

Re: dharmas are not inexistent; what about the self?

Greetings klqv, The Dharma pertains to phenomenological matters of suffering and its cessation, as opposed to ontological concerns regarding existence and non-existence that fall outside the domain of experience. As sunyata pertains to the Dharma, it accordingly pertains to the phenomenological, and...

Re: Metta in Theravada Vs Bodhicitta in Mahayana

Greetings, The Theravadin school is the doctrine of the elders which was a school based in the Mahavihara in Sri Lanka. They saw all Pali Suttas as authentic and based their interpretations on specific Commentaries on them and so on. Modern day Buddhists in the Vehicle of Personal Liberation sometim...

Re: Buddhist Term for "Inner Teacher"?

Greetings,

What about "prajna"?

Which schools of Buddhism recognize it?
All, as far as I know, except it's known as paññā in Pali (which is the language used in the Theravada texts).

Re: forum rules

Greetings Mint, I wasn't even aware this forum had rules. The profligacy of people who say "bullshit," "goddamn," and other expletives without penalty has led me to believe this forum is about as open and freewheeling as any freethinker's forum. Well now that you know, feel free to report any posts ...

Re: forum rules

Greetings xylem, The rules here are very similar to the rules at Dhamma Wheel (the Theravada equivalent of this forum) and at both forums they seem to work well, and are based on the "lessons learnt" from the early days of each forum, and the forums that preceded them. If you require any clarificati...

Re: Confused Buddhist

Greetings, Have you checked out Thich Nhat Hanh? He is a Vietnamese teacher who teaches a mix of Theravada and Zen that perhaps would be the "right" one for you. Good call. Ajahn Chah also comes to mind as a teacher well regarded in Zen circles... Selections: http://www.hsuyun.org/chan/en/features/i...
