Re: Dangers of Marijuana

The expected rule of conventional so called thinking is at work here. So I will let the thread go and leave in hopes some may read the book by Berenson. Here is part of Megan's recent review at Amazon: What I have to say needs to be heard. I remain aghast and horrified by the comments, insults and w...

Re: Dangers of Marijuana

Studies found that people believe anything that has the word study in it. I worked with veterans in the army and have seen cannabis prescribed. It's even covered for vets by insurance now it was so effective in clinical trials. Though obviously overhyped it is a very useful and safe medication. I s...

"Facts," didn't see any medical journal references in there. Just a bunch of bullshit from bad 80s cop shows. Pretty sloppy reader, though his book will be chock full of citations: In most cases, studies find that the risk is at least as significant as with alcohol. A 2012 paper in the Journal of I...

A bit over the top don't you think?
Not a bit - very sobering facts brought to light.
Almost everything you think you know about the health effects of cannabis, almost everything advocates and the media have told you for a generation, is wrong.

So we may conclude that it's up to everyone of us to discover 'an ancient path' taking the words of the Buddha as guidance but not confusing his words with this 'ancient path'. Why you would be 'confused' by our Buddha's teachings being, if not identical in language, but leading to the same liberat...

Another source on our Buddha discovering an ancient path trod by earlier buddhas. The sutta called the Ancient City is too long, but here is the final part: So too, monks, I saw the ancient path, the ancient road traveled by the Perfectly Enlightened Ones of the past. And what is that ancient path, ...

These valuable translations will stop soon, February 28 in fact, if donations do not appear by then. They are only half way thru the translation project.

Re: The Four Noble Truths are

The idea of these truths are common to many pre-Buddha paths.

Anyone pondering the unsatisfactory nature of life (1), wonders why that is so (2), can the sorrows of life end (3) and if so how (4).

See chapter 8 of the Avatamsaka Sutra for examples of the Four Truths in many other realms.

19. The mind is held to be eternally natural clear light; It is coarsened by adventitious faults. The mind is ultimate reality, and there is no other mind but clear light. We speak of this as the nature of mind. 20. Bodhisattvas feel for sentient beings A heartfelt love as great as that Felt for an...

It is not existent nor nonexistent, not the same nor different; Not produced nor destroyed, it will not diminish Nor increase; it cannot be purified Yet becomes perfectly pure—these are the characteristics of the ultimate. 2. The Dharmachakra version with Vasubandhu's comment & Khenpo's gloss: Unless they pursue the five fields of knowledge, Even supreme noble beings will not become omniscient. They therefore apply themselves to these so that they may conquer and provide for others, And so that they themselves will know ...

Re: new Mahayanasutralamkara

Aspiring bodhisattvas generally have a fuzzy notion of just all that a bodhisattva does, over many lives. In the Ten Grounds sutra , on the Fifth ground many detailed areas of expertise are listed that need mastery. Here in the Sutralamkara XII, 60 the same areas are mentioned as the Five Sciences; ...

Re: Introduction to Chinese Buddhism

Be sure to prepare yourself well, possibly for disappointment... A lot of mainland chinese temples today are just tourist traps which you have to pay to get in. At least that is what I have heard. Many so-called 'abbots' of monasteries are just Communist spies in robes. I suppose there some temples...

Why not be radical and have no moderators?

Between using the Foe function and just plain ignoring & shunning, I think things will be fine.
