Buddha Relics Exhibit

Venerable Xian Jie just informed me that there is a Buddha relics exhibit at Wei Mountain Temple in Rosemead, CA Jan 25th to February 2nd. I've seen the relics once before and it was a great experience. There is also a second relics exhibit at their temple in San Jose July 3rd - July 6th. https://ww...

Re: Sudden Realization

To amend what I said earlier about compassion being sufficient, I understand that compassion without any spiritual practice is sort of like a dead end. I was trying to say that being compassionate helps you create affinities with the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas so that they can guide you to the correct...

I think this kind of mimics lots of traditional story arcs of encountering useful guides and freinds who might not flatter or humour us so easily but turn out to be a great blessing. That's true for some not everyone will share that kind of arc." That ...

Yes, here is the site with updates about his health: https://plumvillage.org/about/thich-nha ... hs-health/
As the article says, he moved back to Vietnam to live out his final days at the temple where he first ordained as a novice.

Thich Nhat Hanh's message

Brother Phap Dung: "One of the most powerful teachings that he shared with us before he got sick was about not building a stupa [shrine for his remains] for him and putting his ashes in an urn for us to pray to. He strongly commanded us not to do this. I will paraphrase his message: “Please do not b...

Re: Sudden Realization

I'm just learning like everyone else. I have a lot to learn, I'm not trying to say I don't. And I certainly have a long way to go in understanding Buddhadharma and practicing it. I'm not trying to throw out Buddhism and I understand that this is a Buddhist discussion forum. I was just trying to be s...

Re: Sudden Realization

If you are a compassionate person, you will make affinities with the Buddhadharma, no? The Bodhisattvas will guide you whether you are aware of it or not.

Re: Sudden Realization

I really respect what you're doing Sudden Realization. That is a good method. Find what works for you and integrate whatever teachings work for you into your life. The goal is to be more compassionate and that in itself will lead to freedom, no matter what religion or path you take to get there. One...

Re: Sudden Realization

I don't know who the spiritual guide was, he gave off the vibe of a lay person who had come to some level of enlightenment. He was greatly compassionate and exuded peace and freedom. That is something IMO that you cannot fake. I have had other figures come to me in dreams and I can tell right away f...

Re: Sudden Realization

I had a spiritual guide come to me in a dream. He had good energy; he radiated compassion and freedom. He told me that dogma has no use on the other side. A lot of teachers frown on spiritual "soup", taking bits and pieces from different traditions. But this guide, if he can be trusted, which based ...

Re: Dedicating Your Suffering

What about phrases I've heard such as "may this suffering exhaust the sufferings of all those with a body." I've read a similar quote from a Buddhist master, specifically relating to dedicating the suffering of your death to others.

Dedicating Your Suffering

Can one dedicate their suffering to alleviate the suffering of another? Can one ask a deity like Tara for help in doing this? For example, let's say your suffering quite a bit and you hope the suffering can go to good use. Can you ask that your suffering may alleviate the suffering of those in your ...
