Re: DW Reader's Choice Awards?

Perhaps I was also hoping to push the Dharma Wheel forum more into the media spotlight and to create some "buzz" about it... hehe Why? Hmm... that's actually a very good question. I guess the answer is that I see the increasing popularity of this forum as an opportunity to form another Buddhist org...

Re: DW Reader's Choice Awards?

To flesh out my idea a bit more, if Dharma Wheel Awards existed, I would nominate someone like Ken Holmes for a Dharma Wheel Life-time Achievement Award (for western Buddhists) because he has dedicated his whole life to studying, translating, and teaching dharma. No doubt, there are many other such ...

White Tara mantras for Garchen Rinpoche

In all the world, there are few living Buddhist masters greater than Garchen Rinpoche! If I could give many more decades of life to any human being alive, I would choose Garchen Rinpoche because his every action radiates pure buddha-dharma and brings joy and wisdom to countless beings. :anjali: Here...

Re: DW Reader's Choice Awards?

Under Media we already have a Book Reviews forum. All one need do is start a thread "Five Best Dzogchen Books" or "Five Best Pure Land Books" - etcetera. Then those who have their own favorites in the respective categories can list them. No voting, but a pattern may emerge. That's true, but I guess...

Re: 4 Causes to be reborn in Dewachen-Garchen Rinpoche

One great quote from Garchen Rinpoche's talk:
"If you consider the preciousness of bodhichitta, you really come to a point where you regard bodhichitta as even more precious than your own life."

4 Causes to be reborn in Dewachen-Garchen Rinpoche

Here is a dharma talk by Garchen Rinpoche titled "The Four Causes to be Reborn in Dewachen." I posted it in the general Mahayana forum because I think it might of general interest to many types of Mahayana Buddhists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3P-RpwO8Cs I listened carefully to Garchen Rinpoch...

Re: DW Reader's Choice Awards?

One forum I frequent has a user "reputation" system. There were many checks and balances in place to prevent abuse, but somehow people still managed to abuse it. My best friend received a downvote on one of her posts. Since the downvotes had to come with feedback...it did. An anonymous note calling...

Re: Karmapa's Chenrezig lecture and empowerment video

Thank you, Luke, For posting this talk and Chenrezig empowerment. It refreshed my practice and visualizations. Question: what merit do you feel is achieved through these teachings online? I know it is not the same as being in the presence of the Lama, but what is the potency of video in this age of...

DW Reader's Choice Awards?

I just had the idea recently that since Dharma Wheel has gotten much bigger, maybe there should be something like "Dharma Wheel Readers' Choice Awards"! :D Lots of other websites for various interests (computers, travel, etc.) have their own readers' choice awards, so it's a common thing to do. By h...

Akshobhya lecture by Karmapa OTD

Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje gives a dharma talk about Aksobhya (who is one of the Five Wisdom Buddhas, which are a standard Mahayana belief). I knew very little about Aksobhya before I watched this video so I learned a lot from it. :anjali: Part 1 (The Karmapa's talk begins at 11:00) https://www.you...

EU Kagyu centers following Karmapa OTD?

Hi, I though it would be interesting to have a thread listing all the dharma centers in Europe which follow Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje. Is the list on this webpage a complete listing of them? http://kagyuoffice.org/dharma-centers/europe/ (I don't mean any hostility or disrespect towards the follow...

Karmapa's Chenrezig lecture and empowerment video

I found this dharma talk by Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje to be very interesting and full of useful information (although I don't have time to comment on the many interesting points in the video now). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HCIpoKiHYw I still don't know where my dharma path will lead, but r...

Re: Was denied recorded teachings, thoughts and emotions run wild

Hi Manju, Your feelings of rage over being denied teachings are understandable, but these kinds of situations are an inevitable part of Tibetan Buddhism. Each lama has his or her own different rules and views on things, and these can also change depending on the time and depending on the people they...

Zeena LaVey recent interviews

Here is a video of an interview with Zeena Shreck (formerly Zeena LaVey) who is the daughter of Anton LaVey. She talks a little bit about her childhood, the negative side of the media in a capitalist society, and her current artistic projects. She ends with a typical Vajrayana dedication of merit an...

Re: POTUS 2016

As much as I have been considering myself a bit outside the Dharma Wheel mainstream lately, I have to admit that I also greatly prefer Bernie Sanders. Once a western Buddhist, always a western Buddhist... :P lol I think if Sanders loses, he should live in Mexico for the next 3 years, master Spanish,...

That's probably dead accurate! Conspiracy theories are often like the modern equivalent of telling stories around a campfire. hehe

What do you guys make of this guy and his popularity? I don't know too much about him, but I think that he is primarily a successful entertainer and a businessman. Occasionally, there might be a few bits of good information in his programs, but it is mixed up with so much other stuff that clouds th...
