Re: How do you meditate?

No, no, hahaha ah, don't drive. All life is one, you can experience this at anytime, all the resources are available in the here and now, and you can access many dozens of enlightened masters' teachings; when you hear their voice you are with them, when you touch the earth you are with them, all the...

Re: Self-Discipline

I like what Hanh said about the precepts and discipline; he said the real goal for it is freedom; similar to something Goethe said about manners - they're not there to restrict us, but to allow us to really have freedom of communication and so forth. Hanh was saying the same thing basically; freedom...

Re: Each love is unique

'Little mind, Big mind' is an interesting concept; 'Little heart, Big heart' would be a nice corollary; Contraction and expansion of the heart is interesting as well. :) I believed the Little mind / Big mind concept was associated with Lama Zopa Rinpoche; at least I am fairly certain it was he who w...

I often mention 'Entering the Stream,' as it is very comprehensive, begins with Buddha's life and talks about most subjects, in a very accessible way. :)

Re: Negative emotions, Karma, and antidotes

Sorry if this post is all over the place...perhaps due to my confusion :) As you know clarity of mind and emotions takes time and practice. That is the place to start - from where one is. So the important thing is putting into play positive emotive and other types of beneficial karma. :twot...

Re: Negative emotions, Karma, and antidotes

yes indeed :) thank you so much for this beautiful expression! hehe, one thing I really enjoyed was the 'four faults of natural awareness,' or, 'so close you can't see it, so deep you can't fathom it so simple you can't believe it. so good you can't accept it' one aspect is - buddhas have perfect he...

Re: Negative emotions, Karma, and antidotes

beautiful replies, and nice thread. one of the most potent ideas i encountered, dear Seeker, was the concept of an energy of mindfulness - I'd studied for over a decade, and practiced much, but this simple point brought a great deal home to me. our thoughts affect us, and certain thoughts lead to le...

Re: Self-Discipline

i view it as alternating between self-discipline, and joy in the path. . one of the most beautiful stories i've heard was hanh asking, 'do we require a special effort to enjoy the blue sky? no, I don't think so.' and he makes the point that every step can be peace, and joy; for me, the reason for se...
