Re: Seeing in the Dark

As Old Bob nicely and very clearly explained, this practice helps one realize that our so-called physical body is only a projection based on mistaken habituation. If you don't understand and at least intellectually accept that, then why do dark retreat or even Vajra yang self-visualization?

Re: Guru yoga for longchen?

It's called Thig-le Gya-chen. It is the yang sang or "even more secret" of the Longchen Nyingthig'S four Guru yogas. It is the Guru yoga associated with practicing threk-chod and thod-gal when doing this in a traditional step by step order, as in three year retreat.

Re: Dzogchen Community Naga Rite

Butter does not require the cow to be killed. Actually we use a number of animal products in Naga sang and puja, such as conch shell, crocodile claws, snake skin, none of which necessarily require the animal to be killed. Miusk is a very potent specific poison to Nagas. When doing a wrathful practic...

Re: Tibetan Buddhist Prayers

Each Tibetan school and many individual lineages within those schools have their own Daily Prayer Book (Cho Jyod). For instance, in Nyingma, there's the Mindroling prayer book, Shechen Prayer book, Dudjom prayer book, etc. Nevertheless, there are many prayers in these books common to all, such as Za...

Re: Best location for naga puja

No, this is not a reference to bad Nagas. Nagas come in many different colors and castes, even the good ones. Again from Guru Rinpoche's well-known Naga sang: May the surrounding classes of Nagas be purified. May the assembled hosts of white Nagas be purified. May the assembled hosts of blue Nagas b...

Re: Best location for naga puja

If you're worried about having offended the local Nagas, then say the Naga Amendment of Breaches while burning sang each lu-theb day you can. Do this for a while and see what you think. Because the Naga Amendment of Breaches comes from the sutras, it is not so important to have received the lung, al...

Re: Pumpkin Pie and Auspicious Signs

Kevin, You may find this interesting. I was with Sangyum Kamala, Chatral Rinpoche's Khandro, the last two weeks. We were at a stupa building and consecration in Iowa. A couple of days ago, we started thinking about leaving, our work nearing completion. The Sangyum said yesterday, Oct. 20, was a bad ...

Re: Pumpkin Pie and Auspicious Signs

Kevin,

Does that also mean the opposite, i.e., if one of these animals crosses in front of you the opposite way, that's a bad omen?

In any case, I also love pumpkin pie for breakfast. My wife makes a killer pumpkin pie.

Re: Best location for naga puja

I know your question was "best" and I'm not sure there's an answer to that. While most people associate Nagas primarly with water, Nagas and their associated spirits, such as Tsen, Nyen, Sadag, etc. "live" in all five elements. Maybe the answer is where you think/feel it needs to be done. Here're so...

Re: Realization of the Naga's practices

Sorry you find this crass and insulting. It was not meant to be that way. Are you saying that there's no need to seek any further training or clarification for a practice that is potentially dangerous and which ChNNR has even said is so? If that training can happen within the DC, that's great. Or wh...

rai, Are you absolutely sure that taking photos is not harmful to the individual photographed on some level? Just because most Lamas now don't believe that doesn't mean it can't be true. (I'm not saying it is true, but I'm questioning your logic.) This is the Kali Yuga and even Lamas are more and mo...

????, Sorry to hear about your mother's recent diagnosis of scleroderma. It is not that all skin diseases involve provocations ( don ) by Nagas. In Tibetan medicine, there are several main causes of disease: karma, imbalance in the elements and "humors", and spirit provocations. This is why a qualif...

Re: Realization of the Naga's practices

Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche was a great Master, but I think most people would agree that He was iconoclastic in some regards. He was one of my Teachers (though not one of my Root Gurus). So I'm not criticizing Him in my following response. If He is/was your Root Guru and your samaya with Him is i...

Not sure why this is under Dzogchen, but, in answer to your several questions: 1. Common signs of Naga puja for good, white Nagas being successful include: auspicious and asked for rain, receipt of asked for wealth, the healing of diseases related to the Nagas, seeing snakes in dream and/or real lif...

Re: The Point of Lineage Prayers

Consider: The lineage starts with Samantrabhadra or Vajradhara. In Nyingma, it goes to Vajrasattva and then to Garab Dorje, Shri Singha, Jampal Shenyen, etc. to Guru Rinpoche, Yeshe Tshogyal, King Trisong Deutsan, etc. and then to Longchenpa, Jigme Lingpa, etc. down to who? Your Teacher. So would Ga...
