Re: Why is Buddhism so elitist and cliquey?

Just something I’ve come to accept about Buddhism for the last few years: most Buddhists I’ve met have not at all been humble, loving, and non-judgmental. Quite the opposite actually. (Oh, and don’t forget all the anger and defensiveness.) People you have met personally is not exactly an accurate g...

Re: Why is Buddhism so elitist and cliquey?

Another factor to take into account is that the political scene in this country is elitist and clique in all regards. I believe the term is “tribalism.” If it sounds odd that I, a white American male, basically have to keep my Buddhist practice to myself as a solitary and independent practitioner, k...

Re: Why is Buddhism so elitist and cliquey?

Maybe I should have added this in my original post: I do practice Buddhism, particularly Nichiren Buddhism (which is why I posted this in the Nichiren forum). And I consider my practice highly successful and rewarding. So, I’m not saying Buddhism doesn’t work. While my practice is rewarding and succ...

Re: Why is Buddhism so elitist and cliquey?

I see it very clearly also. You have 20 translators for every carpenter. Why is complicated. Buddhism does attract smart people. But also people with leisure who tend to be from a certain class. "We aren't elitist. We are just better than other people." Thanks. I’m glad I finally worked up the cour...

Why is Buddhism so elitist and cliquey?

I know this is not going to be a popular question. But at least with Nichiren Buddhism it’s probably pretty self-explanatory: any school that teaches that it is the only true school is by definition elitist and cliquey. I think Nichiren Buddhism may be the best example of what I’m offering to, but I...

New “White Lotus” Gohonzon for SGI?

Is there any truth to this rumor that SGI will issue a new Gohonzon in 2020? Anyone know?

Re: Where to purchase Shoshu liturgy book?

Got your addr dpdx, Im in vacation but will be back in the states on the 16th will mail you the book then. I looked thru the new edition from the link, the biggest differences I saw were in the content of the prayers, though I didnt study the recitation sections closely. I still recite the NSA long...

An original Nichikan Gohonzon: anyone got a picture?

I was wondering if anyone knows of a picture of the original Nichikan Gohonzon that SGI now reproduces. I suppose an original would be over 100 years old at this point, right?

Danto? (Meaning?)

Nearest Temple is about 2000 miles away….

Re: Personal Note to the Nichiren Forum

He said he doesn’t want to say more about it and I’ll choose to respect that. I think he already shared the gist of it. I can respect it too. But if you aren't going to mention it … then why mention it? It’s just a bit confusing is all. Why mention it but not mention it, and why continue to...

Where to purchase Shoshu liturgy book?

The latest liturgy book is available online: http://www.bahaistudies.net/asma/nichirenshoshu.pdf

But I’d like to have a hard copy. Just can’t find it anywhere.

Re: Personal Note to the Nichiren Forum

Nothing really. Just explained this: https://dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=31529#p498445 Would it be possible for you to briefly and succinctly explain why you are no longer a Nichiren Buddhist? Your explanation seems very interesting, but in all honesty it is over my head. Naturally, it is ...

Re: Clear diagram of Chinese characters on Gohonzon?

I’m looking for a diagram of the Gohonzon in clearly printed Chinese characters. You see, I recently came upon a Nittatsu Gohonzon, and it means a lot to me that I can actually read the clearly written characters “na-mu-myo-ho-renge-kyo” down the center. I thought it would be great to be able to re...
