Re: I want a Nittatsu gohonzon!

The eBay listing says that the gohonzon has been re-mounted. So that maybe why we have all never seen one before that looks like this.

Re: I want a Nittatsu gohonzon!

Beautiful Nitattsu for sale on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/JAPANESE-BUDDHIST-ALTAR-BUTSUDAN-NICHIREN-KAKEJIKU-MANDALA-SCROLL-18/263488837145 I do have mixed feelings about them being for sale on eBay, but it's interesting to browse the site sometimes because it can provide something of a history ...

Re: Gohonzon Scroll question

Queequeg was born into the Soka Gakkai tradition. To my understanding, his mother helped bring SGI to the United States.

A red Gohonzon?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. Maybe this person just used a special wash. I'm not aware of any on Instagram that will turn something red. Is SGI now issuing red Gohonzon in some countries? ( sorry. Hope this isn't a dumb waste-of-space question.)

Re: Gohonzon Scroll question

That was me who resurrected the ancient thread about downloading a Gohonzon. Here's the story: no one responded to this thread that I started -- https://dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=27755 -- so I did a search to see if maybe that question already been answered elsewhere. That led me to the ...

Re: I want a Nittatsu gohonzon!

The coffeehouse was offline because the old hosting account eventually expired & was closed, but copies were saved & I rehosted it on the link you supplied. I'm happy to keep it there for the forseeable future but I would encourage everyone interested to save a copy of the .zip file referenced in t...

I want a Nittatsu gohonzon!

:tantrum: Anyone got one they want to part with? LOL. For some reason I feel very drawn to them. I think that what I like most about them is that you can really clearly see each individual character. I look at a Nittatsu gohonzon and think to myself, "if I put in the effort, I could probably learn e...

Re: Printing a Gohonzon

If you would have been born in a family that belongs to traditional Nichiren Buddhism (that is Nichirenshu), you would use the gohonzon a priest presented to one your ancestors, not one you got by yourself. This thing about recieving a gohonzon after some time of dedicated practice is only needed i...

Where are SGI Gohonzons printed?

A few questions….

1. Are SGI Gohonzon printed in Japan or somewhere here in United States?

2. What kind of paper are they printed on?

3. And does anyone have a picture of the original Nichikan gohonzon?

Thanks.

Re: Why are SGI meetings necessary?

I don't find anything wrong with your comments about feeling put off by your experience at your local district meeting. One of my members once moved about 30 miles away and had a similar experience; she just couldn't relate to the members in her district and didn't find them to be all that supporti...

Re: Is this a Nichiren Shu omamori?

Thank you very much for answering this question. That means a lot to me. Yes, that 40-year-old male is me. It was given to me by Rev. Myosho Obata at the Nichiren Shu temple in Portland. Pictures of me with her enclosed. (I hesitate to post these pictures because I have gone on and on about how dysf...

Is this a Nichiren Shu omamori?

I was given this several years ago at the temple but I'm not sure what it is. Is this the Nichiren Shu omamori?

Re: Why are SGI meetings necessary?

I was sent to Japan when I was seven years old to visit my half-sister, who is a registered member of the Aleut ("Alaska Native") tribe in Alaska. Because my sister is part Native American, she has an Asian look, and while in Japan she told people she was half-Japanese because it helped her get mode...

Re: Why are SGI meetings necessary?

(With regard to my Louisiana Creole ancestry, which brings with it a degree of African American ancestry, these two pictures are of my great grandmother and her sister, my great aunt. My great grandmother, Ada, is the top picture; I believe she was the most fair skinned of her family, but I had clas...

Was this her having some personal issue with you having memorized gongyo, or is this a "thing" in some circles to look down on those that do? Just curious!
See above.

Re: Why are SGI meetings necessary?

The thought had certainly occurred to me to try a different district. But I live in Oregon, which (except for the Portland Metro area) is a sparsely populated rural state -- which would mean that trying a different district would require perhaps two hours if not more of driving in one direction. And...

Re: Why are SGI meetings necessary?

Forgot to mention this part…. At one of the last SGI meetings I attended, I attempted to, you know, "participate" in the discussion portion of the meeting, so as to convey the message that I, you know, found the community beneficial to my practice…. I ended up mentioning that for some reason I had r...

Re: Why are SGI meetings necessary?

I hate to sound egotistical. In fact, I don't think it's egotistical for me to write this. I think it's merely factual. In many ways, I am the exception to the rule. This is me chanting Gongyo, which I taught myself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7GwTiheAmA I used SGI booklets, and online resourc...
