Re: Quote by DJKR

His new one is highly recommendable, too. http://khyentsefoundation.com/2012/03/rinpoches-newest-book-not-for-happiness/ I wonder if it is the same as the ngöndro commentary mentioned before? His restricted text on ngondro is excellent as well. http://www.siddharthasintent.org/teachings/publication...

Re: Can you ask a real Bodhisattva to examine your life?

I am not quite sure what you are asking. Can you expand a bit? What do you mean by 'Bodhisattva'? And what it is you expect from having one examine your life? I understand a real Bodhisattva to be someone who has taken all the vows and walks along the path. Perhaps someone can show me what I'm doin...

Re: Dzogchen and Buddhism

I am confused about how our inherent state resting within it's primordial nature fulfills the bodhisattva vow. When you realize your primordial state, out of that realization nirmanakāyas will naturally flow because compassion is inherent in your real nature. Could you elaborate on this, please?

Buddhahood is an innate quality: “Oh Vajradhara you must listen! Since buddhahood is unconditioned, there is no buddhahood through fabricated dharmas. The three kāyas of buddhahood are present as the kāya of prajñā. Since there are no material signs in the the kāya of prajñā, it is unaffected by th...

If I can't understand the teacher of the dharma(s) how I will learn it? . . And I believe in other Zen schools, they use the mala for counting prostrations. I've seen a Seon school that does this.

Re: chan/zen buddhism mala use

If anything, they can be used for breath-counting meditation. From the Soto perspective, mala beads aren't ever used by a normal practitioner aside from a beginner doing breath-counting. Masters will often wear beads or keep them on an altar. But, from what I gather, they are only used in certain ri...

Re: Buddhist centers near Orange County, CA?

Which tradition of buddhism? How far from OC is acceptable? There are plenty of Buddhist centers in Los Angeles. I also know of a Zen center in Long Beach, which is not far from OC. It was founded by my first Zen teacher's teacher, Soyu Matsuoka. http://zensangha.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href...

Re: does shikantaza lead to equanimity and insight

Tomamundsen, Zen is Chan, came from Chan Shikantaza is Zhiguandazuo or Mozhao Where do you think Dogen learned all of this? Hi Fa Dao, Yes of course Zen is Chan. I will admit, I have never practiced under Sheng Yen or any of his disciples. The logic for my distinction between Chan and Zen comes fro...

A relevant quote from Dogen, straight outta Fukanzazengi, addressing a point some of the posters have made in this thread: "The zazen I speak of is not learning meditation. It is simply the Dharma gate of repose and bliss, the practice-realization of totally culminated enlightenment. It is the manif...

Re: does shikantaza lead to equanimity and insight

Perhaps it would be a good idea to research further into both before making your decision. Probably the best book on shikantaza out there is by a Chinese Chan/Zen master called Sheng Yen. The book is called "The Method of No Method: The Chan Practice of Silent Illumunation" Well, Sheng Yen is Chan,...

giving gifts to a lama

Hi,

Any suggestions on what might or might not be appropriate to give as a gift to a lama for their birthday? Or if it's even appropriate at all do do so.

Thanks.

Re: empowerments & the mac daddies

From my understanding, we receive empowerments from a lama because we aren't capable of directly receiving them from the deities themselves. During an empowerment, the lama receives the empowerment from the deity, then the lama gives that empowerment to you.

Tibet Kraft - Customer Reviews

Hi,

Has anyone ever ordered anything from http://www.tibetkraft.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;? Their prices seem too good to be true. Not sure how much the shipping is going to be, however. The prices are so low, it honestly looks like it's some kind of scam.
