Kwan yin/Avalokiteśvara

I know Avalokiteśvara is Amitabha's consort, but what role does Kwan yin have in relation to pureland followers? There are a few verses of my daily practice that I mention Kwan Yin, but nothing soley directed to him/her so am I missing anything?

Thanks

Re: Purelands

well what ever issues I had have been dispelled. A few days ago I, in complete confusion decided to pray to Amitabha. I asked for him to remove my confusion, to settle my mind and show me the path to follow. Next day, confusion gone, Amitabha constantly in my mind and since! So there you have it, a ...

shingon info

Hello

Can anyone advise me on a book or website that details shingon practices? I have of late been pursuing the pureland teachings but cannot connect to this school in anyway, I would like to learn about shingon and see if this is something I do connect with before I give up completely. Thanks.

Re: Purelands

Then what do you make of the other passages in the sutra that lists all the different practices one should perform in order to attain birth in Abhirati? It says that one should follow the same vows as Akshobhya plus aspire to be born in his land. It doesn't add that it's all right to do without eve...

Re: Purelands

But you should look at the criteria of birth for those different buddha-lands. They are rarely available for just any ordinary being. In case of Abhirati, "one with passion or attachment cannot be born in that Buddha-land. Only those who have planted good roots and cultivated pure conduct can be bo...

Re: Purelands

It is said that Amita Buddha's land is the easiest to reach, that's why it is the one emphasised and taught primarily and not any other. I think if everyone read the sutra's available and other's which are not as easily found, people would see that all purelands are accessible. All Buddha's have bu...

Purelands

Over time since coming to Pureland Buddhism I have been intrigued by this tradition. Not only for the relatively simple teachings and practice of pureland, but the focus on Amitabha Buddha. I do not doubt the grace, compassion and kindness of the Great Compassionate Amitabha, however being single mi...

Re: Pureland of othe Buddhas besides Amitabha's

I have heard that there is an Eastern Pureland (Medicine Buddha) as spoken in the sutras. Or Maitreya Buddha's pureland (though Im not sure if Tusita is a pureland). How come most people do not vow to be reborn in let's say, Bhaisajyaguru's pureland. I have heard that rebirth in these purelands, on...

two buddhas in the eastern pure land?

How can Akshobhya and Medicine Buddha occupy the same pureland? They look similar are they the same Buddha? I've recently become very close to Bhaisajyaguru so this confuses me somewhat.

Re: Why does chanting Amituofo calm the mind?

I am not quite the person to sit down and meditate. So I chose reciting mantra or buddha names instead. Last night, I was sooooo angry at someone whom I held dear that has wronged me. I felt the burning of hatred and anger. Trust me, it was not a good feeling. A friend recommended that I recite Ami...

Re: which pure land do you seek?

Its in the longer sutra sanskrit version, verses 133 to 142 and the chinese version verses 215 to 221. The Bodhisattvas who have doubt stay in a lotus flower like prison for 500 years. Not really the kind and compassionate idea I had in mind of Amitabha. If it is not too much, can you actually post...

Re: which pure land do you seek?

I was reading the large sutra and found reference to a prison in the land of bliss. The prison is for Bodhisattvas who have doubt in Amitabha, I'm troubled by this, because a Bodhisattva from another Buddha field after having served another Buddha and been beckoned to the Land of Bliss would no dou...

which pure land do you seek?

As each Buddha has a pure land, I was wondering is it correct to understand that when someone says they are a pure land Buddhist that they seek rebirth with Amitabha, or is it accepted under pure land we may take refuge with other Buddha's and not actually wish to be with Amitabha?

buddha holding pagoda

Hi,

Can anyone tell me the name of the Buddha who holds a Pagoda in his left hand? I thought it was Medicine Buddha but doesn't he hold a little jar? Just curious, thanks!
