Re: Sad news - Individual

Very sad. I feel deep sorrow knowing that Individual died so young. We had very stimulating debates and he will be greatly missed. May he find a pleasant rebirth, conducive to the practice of the Dharma. Reading this he would probably jump in and question rebirth! What a guy he was, inquisitive and ...

Re: Dzogchen Without Buddhism?

I believe the use of the word Buddhism is quite complicated and polemic as it is a western neologism. What Buddhism are we talking about? Dzogchen differs a lot from some schools. The path taught by the Buddha leads one beyond concepts too. We can't assume Sadharma is Buddhadharma. It's its fruit. S...

Re: Dzogchen Without Buddhism?

Yes, as I told, if one practices Dzogchen, one automatically is a Buddhist. I wonder if Jim Valby isn't pointing to more external aspects of what generally being a Buddhist has attached (mainly concerning traditions that put much emphasis on renunciation). If you ask me, I personally don't like such...

Re: Article: Evolution doesn't bother Buddhists

Thank you. The point is, it's irrelevant to one's practice knowing or being unaware of the theory of evolution. Perhaps that is why it doesn't bother most Buddhists. Skillful means are used to help us cutting through illusion. If at a certain time a specific cosmogony or whatever was a way of helpin...

Re: Article: Evolution doesn't bother Buddhists

I'd like to offer a quote from the Dalai Lama that seems appropriate when looking to such matters: “Ancient Buddhist treatises describe the universe in conformity with the popular theory of the universe at that time. Consequently, the descriptions differ from those found in modern cosmology...after ...

Re: Dzogchen Without Buddhism?

Hi fellows! I think I can understand Namdrol's critique of a proposal such as practicing Dzogchen without having assimilated fundamental teachings that, AFAIK, are only transmitted within Buddhist tradition. I suppose that approaching Dzogchen while coming from a another framework or mindset, theist...
