Re: Deciphering Tibetan Buddhist titles?

Hmm... Seems like my response got lost in an internet glitch  I do not have a "ressource glossary" to point to, but hopefully this will be helpful:   Examples of titles:   Rinpoche - Precisou one  Tülku - Reincarnation (literally "body of magical manifestation") Yangsi - Reincarnation (lit...

Re: Where do I go to learn Trekcho

Hi TheWInner1 Indeed, Trekchö is not something that can be learned from a book and that requires instructions from an authentic Dzogchen master.   Some of them are more “open” about teaching wide (non-expert level) audiences. Here is a (far from exhaustive) list of some of the most respected Dzogche...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

By implication, are you saying that, for example, a Bön Dzogchen practitioner wouldn't realize emptiness due to not understanding dependent origination "as the Buddha taught it"? Or would you say that Bön has been adequately infused with authentic Buddhadharma to qualify? Where can we draw the line...

Re: Prajñāpāramitā and it's most influential commentaries.

I ordered this. I don't understand it. Is it easier for native English speakers? Is Golden Garland of Eloquence easier? How to get enough language skills? Hi Pael,   Even for a native english speaker such a text would be impossible to understand without proper familiarity with "Dharma Scholastic Ja...

Re: Rolpa energy

I remember reading (or hearing) ChNN explaining Tsal to be the source of outer visions and Rölpa to be the source of inner experiences. He would then go on in explaining that visualization practices are therefore based on this Rölpa energy etc...  Sorry, I cannot remember the exact source. May be so...

Hi Luca,   As a student of Yongdzin Rinpoche, I feel a bit compelled to drop in and join this debate.   When quoting Rinpoche, please keep in mind that: 1) However vast and profound his knowledge and realization may be, his english is, to quote him verbatim a "broken english". Given this barrier lan...

Re: "Mercy" killing of a dying animal - moral doubts

This is of course a very difficult and painful situation.   I personnally find Ajahn Thanissaro Bikkhu's point of view (though Theravadin) quite compelling: Unless endowed with the super-knowledge that allows to see the karma of beings, we have absolutely no idea what awaits beings after death. Howe...

What are nikayas/agamas? Interdependence is ln the spot, but it's interesting to know. The Nikayas are a portion of the Pali Sutapitaka. The Agamas are a portion of the chinese Sutrapitaka that more or less corresponds to the Pali Nikayas. As far as I know, there are however no equivalent in the Ti...

Do you have any ways to counter such thoughts and inclinations ? Buddhadharma ? The purpose of sutrayana is overcoming craving... You will find plenty of tools there to deal with this issue. As a little warning on the side: Westerners easily fool themselves with Vajrayana, thinking that it...

Re: ChNN on presence

The five factors of the first dhyana are initial attention (vitarka), sometimes also referred to as coarse attention; vicara, sustained attention; sukha, i.e. physical ease; priti, i.e. mental ease, and one-pointedness. These are all described by Vasubandhu, and Rongzom does not differ in the way h...

Rongzom mentions that people who are not immediately launched into realization must a) develop the five factors of the first dhyāna, and b) the way they practice is total mindfulness within the horizon of absolute attention. Hi Malcolm, Given the lack of consensus about what qualifies as full / pro...
