Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

The comminity should become more open and invite teachers from other traditions also That seems to me to be the best idea. There is already infrastructure and buildings allover the world. It should be easy to organize retreats with other teachers all the time, and there are many good teachers that ...

Re: Words

In my view this discussion (as a whole) is evolving to a communication right now. It left the state of aggressive accusation and is discussing an important topic: "The pain of Samsara vs. Pure View". Thank you for defending MoP, so he doesn't have to stand alone against a wall of anger. But I hope,...

Re: Enlightenment in a Pure Land

I'm pretty sure he means that if someone goes to Dewachen as a result of only a little sutra practice, then it takes an eternity to attain buddhahood while staying there. If one goes there through practicing tantra etc., there shouldn't be much if any difference. Maybe the difference is that it is ...

Re: Words

I'll grant that the Holocaust is an emotional subject, but I think that, if someone asserts that "whatever happens is good" is a dharmic position, it's not off topic to probe the limits of that position. But, OK, some more Zen words: Sorry for double post. Just delete that. No, its hostile, illogic...

Re: A Need To Believe?

Reading an existing thread got me wondering, but I didn’t want to post the question in that thread, because I wanted to ask a more generalised question and did want to appear to be targeting any specific tradition. Is it possible that some people need to believe that the tradition they follow is un...

Re: Enlightenment in a Pure Land

Tashi delek! Which Pure Land is the best place to get enlightened? And also: why Amitabha's Devachen isn't suitable for this purpose? Thanks ab What makes you say it is not suitable? E.g. Lama Yeshe: "If we are born in the pure land of Vajrayogini, then we can definitely achieve enlightenment there...

Re: Question Regarding Samaya Pollution

Isn’t this a slow underhand pitch regarding samaya? I mean, let’s be real. We’re all samaya corruptors. Just one instant of not holding phenomena as primordially pure and one has broken one’s samaya. The way you describe it, it is hard to be a samaya corruptor. I’ve probably met maybe one or two pe...

Re: All for what?

We moved house recently. The stress was untenable. The inadequacy of the whole process in this country left me with no sleep, tense during the day, unable to sit as I was obsessed with finding somewhere for my family to live. It was without doubt an experience I will NEVER willingly partake of agai...

Re: "Cessation of feeling and perception"

Mod note: OP is referring to this old thread https://dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=9185&start=20 I always feared cessation of feeling and perception until I read the unbinding Nibbāna Sutta wich helped me understand why these attainments are superior to worldly bliss. This is a great thread ...

Re: Integrated Buddhism/Integrated Spirituality

My question is: Does anyone have any insight in how to move through these growing up stages after awakening? For example, if a person has had an awakening but is still a somewhat egotistical or fame hungry person, how do they move to the next stage of development and get over these unhealthy traits...

Re: Some Questions I have about Buddhism

I think that the idea that a infinity can never be reached backwards or forwards in a successive chain needs no explanation,it’s so obvious.Infinity implies boundlessness and this is impossible in reality. I am sure you have heard of Hilberts hotel.Infinity doesn’t exist as a quantity.it cannot exi...

Re: Tonglen discursive problems

I feel that these guys should rot in hell forever before they would reborn again. This is not related to self-cherising but to protecting the others or because I feel the pain and injustice these tortured beings felt. Which is the anlaytical approach that someone follows to do tonglen with Hitler o...

...You are telling people not to go and meet Sakya Trizin, the Dalai Lama, and Thrangu Rinpoche, if they get the chance. If you actually influence someone enough so that they actually take your word for it, do you think the result will be good for either of you? nope, i'm not telling that. nope, i'...

Re: A question about secrecy within Tibetan Buddhism

i've seen people who are like "i got teachings from Karmapa, from HH Dalai Lama, from Tai Situpa, Thrangu Rinpoche and i hope to meet Sakya Trizin next week to receive some empowerments from him as well". imho, that is rather a homegrown approach. That is not 'homegrown', that is the best approach ...

Re: Practice advice please

It has no inherent existence thus and is of no ultimate value. The Buddha himself criticised astrology. Read the Pali Canon. Though I do not use astrology, this argument is out of place. The discussion is about relative value, not ultimate value, which is an absurd notion in itself. In addition, th...

Re: Practice advice please

Isn’t the Dharma more powerful than any astrological conditions? A great Lama once told me that some cultures can’t be separated from their religions while others, like the modern western culture, can. So the “right astrological conditions“ is something that is rooted in eastern culture rather than...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I can't know if it is directly related to specific actions of people, but i was talking about the movie and the book. Students creating problems is not the issue in either of these. In the book, the problems are created by people 'in the system', not by the students attending teachings. Rinpoche cl...
