Re: Why Greta Thunberg Should Be Time’s Person of the Year

I think the Boomers ended up being the most selfish generation in history. Their only defence is they were brainwashed by laissez faire capitalist doctrine. They climbed up the ladder built by the Greatest generation and then pulled it up after them. They won't live long enough to see the coming cl...

Re: Blessed malas and statues

The monastic should be able to bless it for you, and then it is ready to use. It's not an in-person retreat, unfortunately. I've contacted them, and will consider posting their reply if it could help others viewing this thread. I know some, like Garchen Rinpoche, will bless a phurba during an empow...

Re: Blessed malas and statues

Start with the 'search' function in the top right hand of this forum. This info is all there. ;) It might be, but I didn't find anything that addressed my main concern. There are posts on malas, but there are lots of conflicting opinions. I've just signed up to do a free retreat that includes doing...

Re: Manchester UK like-minded associate quest!

I hope it is OK with Mods to mention avoiding a certain cult with Residential Centres in most UK cities. Residence with them may end up with a person becoming very poor and mentally unhinged. Triratna have also had their fair share of controversy. Searching this forum and performing a general Google...

True. In about 7 of 10 Christmas times we were sick. Traditionally before Christmas, I buy some diet food for cold and diarrhea as preservation. "Plum pudding paralysis"   We had Post Pud Projectile! :) Whatever the bug is, it should be sold to Putin for the next assassin...

Re: Food Coma, anyone?

I have a sure-fire preventative:

Invite grandkids who arrive with a vomiting and diarrhea virus.
As a backup, ensure they and their parents also have foul colds and cough all over the food and in your face.
Seems to work brilliantly!

It seems only yesterday ( and in reality it wasn’t long ago) that he was giving interviews voicing his concern for the poor from the steps of his multi million pound house in Islington.
Sounds familiar - Corbsky does the same.
So he really IS Corbyn's love child. lol :)

Yes, he doesn't seem to pretend anything.

Haha.. perspective is very different here. Many Brits think he is ALL pretence and await his next self-promoting flummery.

Re: Russell Brand Free Course

Brand has always fancied himself as a guru. He babbles lots of platitudes, peppered with a few long words he repeats again and again in the hope that people will forget that he has nothing original to teach. He appeals to those who found Corbynsky magical.... mainly airhead student saviour seekers. ...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

For the time being, though, it does seem that he is not offering to lead those who had transmission from ChNN. People seem to forget that Yeshe already has a large base of students in the DC. As far as I can tell, he is merely creating an official way for people who are interested in the DC to part...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Some DC folk will be content with ChNN's transmission and teachings and not really bother about Yeshi. Some new people will accept Yeshi and use the transmission to access ChNN's practices too. Some may only follow Yeshi, but that does not seem to be on offer. For the time being, though, it does see...

Re: Unredacted 'Intact' Sanskrit Tantras

I'm sure you know that book already, but in A Bolt of Lightning From the Blue, Martin Boord has assembled a collection of quotes from Tantras in Sanskrit that have to do with phur pa. He also translates an extract from a Vajrakīlaya tantra that was translated directly from Sanskrit by Sakya Pandita...

Re: Making his point the hard way

This is a story I heard many years ago. I was lead to believe it was true, but I can’t swear by it. Even so I thought I’d share. ***** In the late ‘60s or early ‘70s a western student of a Gelug lama asked him to give a teaching to the hippies and vagabonds traveling their part of India. The lama a...

Re: Found bodhi mala. 94 beads?

thank you for this excellent answer my friend. Do you have information on how to cleanse them? They can't just be useless. I'm going to see my root lama very soon. He can probably bless them and make them good for use? There are mantras and incense methods, but best of all is for a Lama to bless th...

Re: Unredacted 'Intact' Sanskrit Tantras

This is an interesting issue. More and more it appears that material in the Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist canons was very often not a matter of someone sitting down with an authoritative text in an Indic language (not necessarily Sanskrit, for the early sutras Gandhari Prakrit was used most, and a l...

Unredacted 'Intact' Sanskrit Tantras

In an article, Robert Mayer argues that some of the early Tantras in Tibet were not simply translated from Sanskrit but redacted and even merged elements into something meeting the expectations of Tibetan culture. Tibet did not have the 'polytropic' approach to practice which existed (exists) in Ind...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Or perhaps in the not too distant future a Lama will receive a unifying Longsal terma from ChNN through lucid dreaming, so no successor is needed.
