Re: nyingma lineages/cycles structures of practice.

Would it surprise you to know that in Vimalamitra time people thought if they dreamt something it really happened? Yes. Where did you get that from? It seems extremely unlikely. I'm Mr. Meseeks. Look at me! This is how it was. People thought that dreams were real. Why did you change your user name?...

Re: Dzogchen and the Two Stages

It depends on your point of view and that should be obvious from the posts in this thread, no? no sadhana is a sadhana: if a sadhana instructs one to visualize oneself as a deity, then that's it - you suppose to visualize one self as a deity. i din't doubt that at any point during a sadhana you can...

Re: Western-Born (English) Tibetan Buddhist Teachers Like Alan Wallace

OP, you need to clarify what you mean. There are a handful of qualified, Western-born lamas who can read Tibetan. Actually, in my opinion, there is no such thing as a qualified lama who cannot read Tibetan at all. However, I don't think there is anyone else who really teaches like Alan Wallace. Som...

Re: Is it permissable in Guru Yoga to choose an historical guru?

"Therefore even though you receive a lot of transmissions and instructions from all over the place, the essence of what you practice should come from a pure lineage. Chakme Rinpoche writes that even though you rely on many different teachers, the teacher or guru to whom you pray should be some...

I don't know about the recording of the teachings but if you want to receive the lung you'll have to watch it live.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Outside of ChNNr's own termas, everything else he taught can be found with other teachers (though tracking down termas of Ayu Khandro and Changchub Dorje would be an interesting exercise), though not in such a convenient package, so we don't need to worry so much about their preservation. Don't kno...

Re: The Origin Of Tibetan Singing Bowls

This is just an appeal to people with new age tendencies. You may notice that Bonpos do not teach their serious curriculum of Madhyamaka, Abhidharma, etc. These texts, though borrowing from Buddhist texts, are not simply copies of Buddhist texts as commonly thought. The modern Bonpos focus on ritua...

Sorry but I disagree. If the Dalai Lama hasn't received this from Norbu Rinpoche then he cannot give it. It has never been any other way.

I also clearly recall him being a massive fan or Rinpoche's, and the sudden change is saddening, to say the least. IIRC CW has these sorts of turnarounds every couple years. I still do not know what point Crazywisdom is trying to make, nor how come he is trying to make it, though. Me either. :smile...

Re: Is Tara a goddess, a Boddhisatva or a Buddha?

On the Wikipedia entry she is mentioned repeatedly as a goddess. Is she a Deva? Yes. In Tibetan Buddhism Deva can refer to worldly devas (like Indra, Brahma) or an enlightened deva such as Tara in this case, through the practice of which we may achieve enlightenement ourselves (on the opposite side...

Re: Dune

I reread Dune and Dune Messiah during the pandemic anticipating the new film. I'm now in book 5, thousands of years in the future. Cool, I got stuck at book 4. David Lynch's film was flawed but great with all that HR Giger aesthetic. The TV series was very underwhelming. Been a long time since I wa...

Re: Changchub Dorje Kalachakra

No. There is very precise description of Anuyoga Kalachakra, Rinpoche transmited it for the first time on Margarita 2004, so i know it from this retreat. My apologies, you are correct. There was another Kalachakra image given at the 2013 retreat which I have forgotten about. I actually now remember...

Re: Changchub Dorje Kalachakra

I think Magnus is correct. IIRC Rinpoche said that though there is this sadhana in CCD's termas there was no description of how Kalachakra looks like anywhere and no empowerment for it. When he got the Longsal Kalachakra he realized the two were connected, so in the end the way the deity looks like ...

Re: The Dao of Politics and ideology

Maybe not, it just seemed to me the common example of someone chastising others for "being political" in a way that's not very constructive. Something people (I think) do out of frustration. I understand but I took it more as "chastisment" of getting overly attached to ones pref...
