I`d say in this picture they both receive empowerment from somebody else.

Manju
Clearly. It's quite obvious that neither are giving an empowerment in that picture.

Re: Read on the Kayas

Longchenpa is explaining how the three kAyas that appear at the time of the path of training are not the three kAyas of the time of the result. He explains both very clearly, which is why I posted the text as resource. Do you talk about number four in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Treasuries ...

Re: Read on the Kayas

I am quite confused about the three (plus one?) kayas and would like to read a bit closer into it. Understanding seems to be utmost necessary on various levels also due to their interconnectedness to the dzogchen visions, the abhishekas, probably overall the path and the fruition. I tried the dharm...

Rinpoche has been sick the last two days and has been resting. The morning sessions for today and yesterday have been practice lead by Nina.
They said he was feeling a bit tired, not that he is sick.
semantics
Not really.
He's 80.

This is by far the most skillful piece of writing he has publicly shared in a while.
It is quite refreshing to see.

Re: Dzogchen & renunciate lineage transmission

Here's my situation: There are some practices that I received in a renunciate context, where I was exhorted to observe strict chastity and vegetarianism while engaged in them, among other moral strictures and purification practices. The core practices are clearly tantric in origin and similar to on...

Re: Dzogchen and the relative world

Until one becomes a buddha, abiding in the natural state itself does not necessarily equip one with particular skills and knowledge in relation to relative objects or actions. Knowledge and skill is obtained by learning and training. eg: An arya being who is untrained in mechanics must be trained i...

Currently reading Anyen Rinpoche’s Dying with Confidence which has a lot of practical advice and support for one either going through the death process or supporting someone who is.
That's a wonderful and approachable book.
It was also an absolute delight to work on with Rinpoche and Allison.

Not that I have heard of.
Oracles seem to be a deeply cultural phenomena and it is unlikely that they will be formally recognized in the western transmission.

what makes it a 'lung' ?
If one just goes to a service and hears the mantras, is it a lung?
Intention on both sides makes it a lung. Just hearing a mantra doesn’t cut it.

Re: Ngakpas

So, advice here is that there may be the need for either retreat or permission of your teacher before giving someone a lung of a mantra which is not sutric, and one Lama's recommendation of at least 100,000 repetitions. I wonder what would happen if the clear stipulation was that you must have sign...

So, are you saying that there is no need to get the permission the give empowerments from the master that actually gave you the empowerment? You can just decide for yourself when you are ready? /magnus It depends on circumstances. When sentient beings ask for teachings, a bodhisattva gives them. Th...

I asked because I have a friend who is a Ngakpa and gave me transmission for the Vajra guru mantra. I wasn’t certain if only Lamas could give transmission or not so that’s why I asked.

Re: Ngakpas

Are Ngakpas qualified to give lung/transmission of mantras, sadhanas or other practices? Thanks! It would be weird to receive a lung of a mantra from someone who was NOT a ngakpa, at least in the sense of the words meaning. Yes, many lineage masters are ngakpa and they are supreme sources of transm...

Re: Pure vision, what's up with?

So, following up on my OP, the discussion here keeps going back to Tertons (which is fascinating and awesome). Am I wrong in thinking though that receiving a pure visions is different from receiving a terma and being a terton? I'm under the impression that these are separate. I think it might be th...
