Re: enlightment in one life

You don't need any kind of realization to go to sukhavati in standard pure land practice. But you need the conditions, which are included in Dzogchen transmission. What is it meant by "direct perception of vidya"? That sounds like a hefty requirement. Direct perception of vidhya is recognition of t...

Re: enlightment in one life

In that case it would be a good idea to combine pure land practice with dzogchen in order to avoid more rebirth in samsaric realms? It’s already included. You don't need any kind of realization to go to sukhavati in standard pure land practice. But you need the conditions, which are included in Dzo...

Re: enlightment in one life

What happens to those lazy practitioners who receive transmission but are never able to to see the direct perception of vidya? Will they continue to take rebirth in the 6 realms like everyone else? Eventually, sooner rather than later, they will meet the teachings again and have another go at it. I...

Re: Preparation for an Empowerment

Okay, so I found out that my refuge lama is giving an empowerment to Saraswati in June( :woohoo: ) However, I would like to ask, how does one prepare for an empowerment such as this? Plus, since I have a male body(yes, I get the idea that my profile name is female, but I only used it as an honor to...

Blessings are necessary and if the Guru says you can practice without a lung that is a blessing of the lineage, albeit big or small.
One does not have a Vajrayāna guru sans empowerment.
What is that?
No empowerment, no guru.

Re: Bodhicaryavatara Discussion

Here is a brilliant guide to meditating on the text by Patrul. http://www.lotsawahouse.org/tibetan-masters/patrul-rinpoche/bodhicharyavatara-brightly-shining-sun I'd like to bump this post because I agree with Josef that this is a remarkable guide to the "Guide". Thanks for sharing it, Josef! This ...

Limiting the scope of the refuge in the sangha jewel doesnt really correspond with the view of the inner tantras in my opinion.

Which lamas would you recommend?

Re: Prayers and mantras

A prominent member of this forum said that. You can take it up with him. If I understood him correctly he was saying they are legitimate but were only "meaning" empowerments as opposed to full empowerments. This is regarding ChNN. Thats ChNN, not all lamas. Which lamas would you recommend? For webc...

Re: Prayers and mantras

According to my research a full empowerment is not possible through live webcast. Thats what I thought. Your "research" clearly hasnt been very exhaustive. As Peter says above, there are many authentic masters who confer full and legitimate empowerments via webcast etc. A prominent member of this f...

Re: Skillful means and Dzogchen

Thanks for the responses so far. To refine my question, I guess I'm thinking about the bodhisattva activity of bringing relative benefit to beings through our practice of things like riwo sangcho. Norbu Rinpoche talks about working with circumstances and such, and sometimes it seems like we think o...

Re: Bodhicaryavatara Discussion

In Nectar of Manjushri's Speech , the commentary by Kunzang Pelden, a disciple of Patrul Rinpoche, he treats verses 5:91-96 together under the heading "Avoidance of giving scandal to others". I consider the point of this passage to mean being considerate, polite, and unobtrusive in the work of beco...

Re: Thoughts on Vajra Hell

Reading a book and hearing recordings of a practitioner provide absolutely no empowerment, transmission, qualification or attainment whatsoever. You have not and will not make any progress in Vajrayana without a guru. Sadly, we seem to be getting quite a few of these threads recently on DW. On a po...

Re: Pointing out instructions and commitments

Good question, I don't really know. I suppose I was thinking that it was establishing a connection that had greater samaya than an empowerment. No, there is no samaya greater than empowerment. Direct introduction is an empowerment. I had the impression it was a special kind of empowerment. Is that ...

Re: Bodhicharyavatara Questions (4 of ?)

I have an interest in the Bodhicharyavatara for reasons that are irrelevant to this question. I was reading that Patrul Rinpoche would encourage his students (at least some of them) to read the Bodhicharyavatara 100 times after teaching on it. BCA-Q9: Is there a tradition of this "reading 100x" thi...

Re: Bodhicaryavatara Discussion

This stanza brings peace among man. I believe that this conduct prevents suspicion, jelousy and enmity. Certainly, today this can be labeled as "archaic" but it is also true that people today is not very truthful nor respectful with his/her companions. What else can this conduct cause or prevent? I...
