Re: Boy chosen by Dalai Lama turns back on Buddhist order
Well, there's certainly nothing wrong with quoting Jimi Hendrix....Maybe he'll find his way back to spirituality through music. Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa used The Rolling Stones song- "Satisfaction" in one of their teachings about the eight worldly dharmas and the shortcomings of attachmen...

Re: The Buddhist View Toward Other Religions
"Ngawang Drolma", The primary role of the Dalai Lamas has been temporal, but of course he's also viewed by many as a spiritual master. The Dalai Lama promotes a philosophy which engages all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Yes, The Gaden Tri Rinpoche is actually the head of the Gelukpas,...

Re: Dharma Poems - wasan, haiku, whatever....
When we practice bodhicitta prayers or meditations, it may look like we are alone, like we are practicing for ourselves, but we are not practicing for ourselves, and we are not alone. All beings are interconnected, and in that sense they are present or affected. Milarepa sang, "When I am alone...

Re: Emotional Love
Venerable is very wise. Emotional 'love' exaggerates. There is a lot of attachment involved in emotional 'love'. In Buddhism it is the attachment we work to give up, not our love, not our happiness. When there is less exaggeration / less attachment and fewer unrealistic expectations of our loved one...

Re: Giving up on Buddhism?
"Luke" Sometimes I do wonder how simply thinking nice thoughts or receiving a lama's blessings can affect anything. I believe the ancient masters, but I am still looking for a good explanation. On the surface, these ideas do sound like wishful thinking. If Hitler had meditated on equanimi...
