My view is that we have Buddha nature and that a Buddha in training is one who is working to clear the obscurations and impediments that hide it from view.
So there is probably not one person on this board who is not a Buddha in training.

Re: Hard to find control
Oh, so you can't just wander in and fiddle with such a thing independently? Well then I suppose I will just have to make the small effort of getting used to it. No biggie.

Re: The Middle Way - H.H. the Dalai Lama
Hm. I don't think we are getting anywhere here. Either that or I just can't follow the thread. I still read the OP and am still perplexed. If consciousness had no beginning and no end, it seems to me it must then be unchanging. Is there any argument with this? If consciousness is unchanging, then th...

Hard to find control
The UI line that says "Board index < welcome < Suggestion box" should be in a larger more brightly colored font. It should stand out more.

Re: Conversation.
Lol, these Buddhas-in-training are a hoot. Clumsy as kittens and twice as cute. Gotta love 'em.
BTW tnks for the links, I like Dalai Lama talks. There are not many like him, who can talk about any topic and saturate it with kindness.

Re: Bodhicaryavatara.
I have been having great difficulty attaining clear understanding of the later chapters. However, I have found that if frustration or mental fatigue arises from these extended mental wrestling matches, I can always return to the early chapters. There I find mental rest, refreshment, and clarity. Som...

Re: The Middle Way - H.H. the Dalai Lama
Wow. This thread is showing a very low tolerance for illogic. I'm impressed. Comparing the 1984 Ford Taurus and consciousness, I see similarities. Both arise from a prior moment of existence. But if the Taurus can have a beginning, why can't consciousness? At the very least, I would say this means y...

Re: Buddha Booze
About six months ago I had a beer and a half, after not consuming any alcohol for over a year. It tasted so gross and it made me feel really, really bad. It hurt my stomach with heartburn, it irritated my depression, and just felt somehow bad and icky and foggy. And I used to love a good dark froth...

Got to say thanks for the Christmas dharma post. The teacher took me well outside my usual box of thinking. A stunning demonstration of goodwill and acceptance.

Re: Euthanasia and the 1st Precept
The only way I have found to deal with such a situation is to go ahead with euthanasia when then animal is in terminal pain. In doing so, I recognize the karma may be very bad, but I willingly accept it as necessary. Sometimes, I think, life traps us in situations where the karma is lousy in all dir...

Re: The Middle Way - H.H. the Dalai Lama
Indeed. For instance I find myself more or less in the position of facing the Dalai Lama himself in debate, for I have outright disagreed with him. This feels very awkward, but I must bear in mind this is the dialectic process and the Dalai Lama would, I'm sure, launch into the debate with gusto. Gu...

Re: The Middle Way - H.H. the Dalai Lama
But why not say, consciousness arises, persists, passes away and arises again? Does this not occur every night to every one of us? Depends on whether you equate sleep with being unconscious. I would refrain from seeing it that way. At least there are dreams. Sometimes we remember them, some even sa...

Re: The Middle Way - H.H. the Dalai Lama
I'm still probing, albeit independent of counsel or study. Just pondering now and then through the day. If you look a causes and conditions it gets interesting. As I understand it, mind is an aggregate of various sensations and thought. The sensations and thought are clearly impermanent. I can't thi...

So yer sayin there are almost 100 people in the prisons who have received empowerment and are doin the whole Tara shebang every day?
That would seem to present logistical problems. What about privacy and the cellmate with a taste for rap music?

Re: The Middle Way - H.H. the Dalai Lama
Sigh, I will look into this. I don't wanna, but I will. On the surface it appears to me that impermanent, eternal consciousness is a flat contradiction. That which is eternal is unchanging, that which is unchanging cannot decay, and therefore that which is eternal is permanent, not impermanent. righ...
