Re: If experiences are inherently neutral
I think I'm better off abandoning Buddhism, so far its done nothing but cause me suffering and pain. I'm gonna take care of some mental health issues I have for the moment. Maybe down the line Buddhism will find me when I'm in a better state but until then it's better I just leave it all behind rig...

Re: Keeping AIs honest
An irony? We have imposed the metaphor of an artificial mind on computers and then reimported the image of a thinking machine and imposed it upon our minds.

Nonconceptuality
This is to supplement the thread going on in the Dzogchen forum. During stillness, nonconceptuality is prolonged. If you prolong nonconceptuality as the essence [of mind], you do not understand the key point of the dharma. Core of Mahāmudrā: The Instructions on the Ultimate Essence (mDo sngags kyi s...

Re: How can one tell?
I see no purpose in perpetually cleaning up after beings who will not learn until the waste gets to that critical mass of toxicity that it affects real change in their attitudes and experiences of the world. I certainly, being of sound mind and body, would prefer to not experience anything after I ...

Most things may never happen: this one will
Aubade BY PHILIP LARKIN I work all day, and get half-drunk at night. Waking at four to soundless dark, I stare. In time the curtain-edges will grow light. Till then I see what’s really always there: Unresting death, a whole day nearer now, Making all thought impossible but how And where and when I s...

Re: Foucault's "discourse"
For examination, left-wing post-modern theorists can be divided into two schools of thought. The first school consists of scholars who understand post-modernism as an epoch in Western history. Most are self-identified Marxists or post-Marxists. Representative thinkers include Frederic Jameson, Davi...

Tyvm again. Is there a good online resource which discusses the kind of Marxist critique of capitalism while avoiding all of this critical theory kind of thing?

Foucault's "discourse"
Foucault explores the many “discourse-formations” that structure our negotiation of knowledge and power in a given society at a given time. Each discourse has its own specific history of emergence and entails a certain set of rules that govern what objects may be spoken of within the discourse, wha...

Re: A Manifesto Against the Enemies of Modernity
This is the authors' prognosis for "centrism", by the way: To counter existential polarization, a solution calling for a collaboration in the name of centrism has been held out. On the surface, this seems precisely the kind of compromise and rejection of extremism that is needed, inviting,...

Re: A Manifesto Against the Enemies of Modernity
I think it's worth defending and expanding on the ideas that arose with Liberal Democracies. Freedom of speech, human rights, individual dignity etc. However, there's a lot that goes along with "modernity" that doesn't fit in those categories, and I think most of his definition is bunk. I...
