Re: Essence of the Vast and Profound

At any rate, I am finding much value in the new edition.

Yet if someone is familiar with both and does find glaring or significant differences let me know.

The embarr...

Re: Emperor Liang's Repentance

Ah, you're right. It's not the main monastery on the mountain but Nongchan Temple 農禪寺 in Beitou, Taipei. I love this temple. In the Buddha hall (水月道場)the heart sutra is engraved in the wall so its letters will shine on the floor from the sunlight. Not a traditional temple design at all - simply cle...

Re: In Praise of Virtue

It is one of the few consolations in this not entirely disconsolate world, that not only Evil, but the Good also may have a strong infectious power that will show itself increasingly if only we have the courage to put it to the test. "Thus it is our own mind that should be established in all t...

Reading now the Wisdom 2019 edition of the 2014 Dechen Ling edition. Just wondering if the Wisdom edition is identical or are there any meaningful differences - have not read the 2014 edition.

The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings, the inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries...socialism is a philosophy of failure, a creed of ignorance, and a gospel of envy.

Re: In Praise of Virtue

Virtue is inseparable from good art. It is taken for granted that a work reveals the artist's soul as well as his mind. But what is more important, the work of art must by its order mirror the hierarchical order of the world, which is a moral order. Whether by intuition or by convention, the artist...

The wrong type of individualist [is] the individualist who has repudiated outer control without achieving inner control. “People mean nowadays by a philosopher,” says Rivarol, “not the man who learns the great art of mastering his passions or adding to his insight, but the man who has cast off prej...

Re: In Praise of Virtue

All the virtues you preserve, but
That which cuts at their very roots,
This anger, you have not yet abandoned.
Who is a greater fool than you?

Done is an ignoble deed
By another—so you get angry.
Aren’t you just like him?
