Re: Mind/Rigpa and body relation

Knowledge sounds so abstract. Like, I have a lot of knowledge about computers. How do I rest in that knowledge?I guess I don't understand what you mean by knowledge. Language is tricky. To use your example of a job well done. Ok, so I 'know' I did a job well done because I have the thought, 'wow I d...

Re: Mind/Rigpa and body relation

Tashi delek, :) Yes the term Rigpa, is a very difficult word to translate, sure when it is related to awareness. Also is it clear that Rigpa could also be inteligence, that was also one of my earlier suggestion. In my opinion, translating rigpa as "awareness" is simply wrong. Intelligence...

Re: The brain and Dzogchen...

If ChNN says the brain is like an office then I don't have to accept it as a definitive truth. I can see it as a relative truth. If ChNN says the brain is appearance/emptiness inseparable then I would accept that as a definitive truth and proceed accordingly. That reason why Norbu Rinpoche says thi...

Re: Buddhism on God

If I remember correctly, Buddha Shakyamuni gave the noble silence to such metaphysical questions... so couldn't it be argued that Buddhism (at least the kind stemming from the historical Buddha) is agnostic?

Re: Very few Buddhas for so much time

This is not exactly a question, just some toughts: Buddha Shakyamuni teach us the Dharma at 2500 years ago and we are alreay ih the Dharma Degeneration Age. Isnt that to quick? Should we expect more years before such degeneration age? and we took a 500 year penalty when the Buddha expanded the memb...

Re: The permanence of enlightenment

This reminded me of another thread where the differences in Mahāyāna liberation and Dzogchen liberation were briefly discussed, Namdrol wrote: Parinirvana without any remainder. This is another place where Dzogchen doctrine differs from common Mahāyāna -- the goal in common Mahāyāna is a non-abidin...

Re: The permanence of enlightenment

Hello, I am having a discussion with someone who does not believe that enlightenment is permanent and lasting, because he says the mind is impermanent and all phenomena are impermanent. I said that enlightenment is not a phenomena but a realization about the true nature of all phenomena, but this p...

Re: The permanence of enlightenment

Thank you. Do you have a link to a sutta which talks about Nirvana as the cessation of ignorance and the 12 links? That would be great.

Re: The permanence of enlightenment

The Abhidharmakosha explains it. Nirvana is not a compound phenomena and so because it does not come about by causes, it is permanent. Thank you. But is there anything specific to the realization of NIrvana? I can see someone simply arguing that Nirvana may be permanent, but the mind is impermanent...

Re: Peter Fenner - "Radiant Mind"

I happened upon the 7 disc audio series a while back. I was intrigued by it because of his credentials (background in Madyamaka and student of Dzogchen), but really his focus is Advaita, not Dzogchen or Buddhism. Very much like Eckhart Tolle. He's very fixated on awareness and has the view of substa...

Re: Seek To Be Lamps Unto Yourselves

I always found it quite confusing that ChNNR seems to equate shamata and emptiness. /magnus Ah, so that's it. Sonam's quote was indeed confusing...Rinpoche isn't talking about Pratītyasamutpāda (dependent origination) when he says shunyata/emptiness... so what does Rinpoche call dependent originati...

Re: Seek To Be Lamps Unto Yourselves

it would be more precise to say the only true refuge is one's own indestructible and changeless Nature as the Dharmakaya. No, it would not be more precise. Dharmakaya is not a "thing" , indestructibe, changeless, or otherwise. It is the true nature of what we would call "things"...

Re: Seek To Be Lamps Unto Yourselves

Because Zen is sutra a teaching, therefore leading to sunyata, I would not comment ... we are in the Dzogchen Forum. Sönam Sonam, Isn't sunyata the goal of Dzogchen? What is higher than the realization of sunyata? I thought that Rigpa = knowledge of sunyata. When Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche talks about ...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Introduction to Practice of Contemplation is a wonderful book! I would also recommend Rushens Semsdinz Lojongs and Guru Yoga books. Cycle of Day and Night and Dream Yoga are wonderful too.
