Re: Pls Help Identify a GR Thangka
Actually, after taking a look at Tbrc I think michaelb may be right, and if so it could be this http://xmeru.org/eBooks/W20869-0338-7-46-any.pdf If not, it's probably one of the other guru practices included in Dudjom's collected works. In other words, it's probably not a revelation of Dudjom's, but...

Re: Pls Help Identify a GR Thangka
I don't think the teacher with the beard is Dudjom Lingpa. For one he is too dark, a depiction usually reserved for Indian teachers. Plus he's too close to the top. If that is Dudjom Rinpoche at the bottom, then Dudjom Lingpa would probably be closer to him rather than next to Trisong Deutsen. My gu...

Re: Budddhism in Nepal
I'm not sure what you mean by Buddhism in Nepal. It seems like you want to know about Newari Buddhism, which is essentially Vajrayana and traditionally only found in Kathmandu valley. Otherwise, most of the Buddhism you find in Nepal would fall under the, admittedly misleading, heading of Tibetan Bu...

Re: Seven Limb Prayer adapted from Bodhicaryavatara
:anjali: Glad this worked out. I've always wondered why the seven branch prayer in there was so disjointed. It's interrupted by long meditations on death and impermanence, etc. It might just be a later rearrangement by typographers, or perhaps the seven branch prayer as we know it was organized lat...

Re: Seven Limb Prayer adapted from Bodhicaryavatara
Only according to Berzine's translation, because he adds the short two line verse onto the end of verse three. The way I was taught this text, is to treat this as a separate verse, which makes those verses 5-7 rather than 4-6.

1= 2.24
2= 2.22
3= 2.28-29
4= 3.1
5= 3.5
6= 3.6
7= 3.7
That should be right.

Re: Seven Limb Prayer adapted from Bodhicaryavatara
In the BCA there are actually eight limbs and they are discussed in chapter 2 and 3 as the preliminaries to the actual bodhisattva vow, which if memory serves me right is found in verses 23 and 24 of the 3rd chapter. So you should be able to find all the verses scattered intermittently starting at t...

Re: PhD Programs in Buddhist Studies in Asia
Not to toot my own horn, but to give you a better idea, from what I've seen, I probably have one of the highest levels of fluency in spoken and literary Tibetan among Western Tibetan language students living in Asia (maybe 5th or 6th place), and I arguably might be the best Tibetan-English translat...

Re: PhD Programs in Buddhist Studies in Asia
Even the most "Western" option, Rangjung Yeshe, doesn't seem that appealing on several counts. . What exactly is it that doesn't appeal to you? If you're interest is in the Tibetan tradition it seems like you would be better off doing your MA there and then move onto a Ph.D. program after...

Re: Most recent terma?
The major difference between dag snang and terma is that the latter were intentionally concealed so that they could later be revealed or taken out of their place of concealment. Though, pure visions can occur in the dream, waking, or meditative states, it's not that they are revealed through these p...

Re: Most recent terma?
There are many termas being revealed in eastern Tibet. Unfortunately, we hardly hear about them here in the west. There are many great Lamas still in Tibet, doing things the old way, having realized students, and bringing the Dharma to many people. They just don't have the internet. :smile: Oh they...

Re: Most recent terma?
It would be impossible to say which is the newest, because, unless they're revealed in public, it could be years before the seal of secrecy is lifted by the terton. Nevertheless, neither Jigme Phuntsog, Kusum Lingpa, or many of the other tertons mentioned here that are deceased, would top the list, ...

Re: Government of Pre-PRC Tibet
Ya that's pretty much what I suspected. And, btw, Tibetan monks don't become "Rinpoche" when they grow old, so 'kushok-la' is appropriately polite enough for most circumstances. In fact, in certain areas of Tibet the title Rinpoche is exclusively used for the Dalai Lama. Have you ever liv...

Re: Government of Pre-PRC Tibet
In other words, what tradition were you ordained in? I'm asking because, despite several people asking this very question on the thread in which you anounced your ordination, you never actually gave the specifics. I don't go into those details on a public forum as a safety precaution. I don't need ...

Re: Government of Pre-PRC Tibet
So where , when, and from whom are you hearing all this "propaganda"? Please be specific. Propaganda is defined as information that is spread in support of a certain cause. A lot of what goes for common sense in Tibetan Buddhism, such as the aforementioned idea that Tibetans are the caret...
