Re: Yeshi's really back!

If you need the following conditional exception to amend your prior one-liner, then the prior one liner "One does not need beliefs for Dzogchen" was both inaccurate and misleading. It is perfectly accurate and not misleading. To avoid that, it would have to read something like "One d...

Re: Yeshi's really back!

Correct. I stand by all these statements. "Beliefs" belong to lower vehicles. However, Dzogchen sets out to resolve the existential predicament the Buddha pointed out, but without intellectual beliefs. If someone shows up at my teaching, I don't tell them they have to believe anything, or...

Re: Yeshi's really back!

Malcolm, just for the sake of examples, here’s some quotes taken from the aforementioned series of threads you started here in the Dzogchen Forum circa 2012… from some of these, one could even construct a defense of Yeshi’s controversial statements I would imagine, no? "One does not need belief...

Re: Yeshi's really back!

Will you guys? And what if he doesn't? Will you go against him? It is not a question of for or against. It is a question of agree or disagree. There have always been people in the DC whose view is basically annihilationist. There are others who stridently insist they are not Buddhists. Still others...

Re: Help identifying figure

Thank you for this analysis. One doubt I have though is that looking at all existing images of statues of Nichiren leaders or monks that I could find, they appear to be sitting in lotus, when seated. This small statue of mine the figure is clearly kneeling, which is generally associated with Zazen ...

Re: Help identifying figure

My guess for the statue: 行善院 is a Nichiren institution and the person depicted is 了心日定 (Ryoshin Nichijou), this being a standard two-part Buddhist master name as is common in East Asian tradition (do-go 道号 + ho-go 法号). There is in fact a 行善院 in Saitama that is affiliated with Shoshinkai, a dissiden...

Re: Help identifying figure

Thank you everyone, once again. Since I don’t speak or read the language, I’m not sure how you got to Seiganbo Shinjo, PadmaVonSamba, could you walk me through that? Personally, I have to rely on translation programs. Entering the text in reverse doesn’t seem to translate at all in these programs ot...

Re: Help identifying figure

Thank you both. After reviewing some variations on calligraphic simplified ways to write the character for “thunderbolt” I think it’s possible the last character could
be that. This is just one example but I’ve seen some handwritten ones that look closer to the sample.

Just to reply about the OP, re: his bedside table and the
aforementioned lonely vajra… from a purely Vajrayana
read, a vajra with no bell = action with no wisdom. No big surprise here!

Help identifying figure

Hi there, I was given this small antique carved and lacquered statue of what I assume is a Japanese Zen master. I can’t read myself the writing on the back but a Japanese friend helped attempt a translation. It seems like it could be naming a specific temple. I hope someone here might be able to ass...

 thanks Climb-Up Very interesting, he “had a particularly close relationship with H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. The previous 9th Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche, who passed away in Rumtek in 1962, had been H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche's older brother.” https://rywiki.tsadra.org/index.php/Sangye_...

Crazywisdom wrote: Mon Mar 21, 2022 11:03 pm Who did Tulku Dakpa say he received the transmission from?
I didn’t catch that either, however, the Lama he received
it from received it themself from Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche,
that was clear.

Did anyone else here catch the name of the Lama?

Re: Dudjom Sangye Pema Shepa Rinpoche's parinirvana

From the Seven Line Prayer Facebook page: Yet another regent of Padmasambhava has departed. The sudden Parinirvana of young Dudjom Sangye Pema Shepa Rinpoche is a terrible shock. When great masters suddenly depart for pure realms, it echoes prophecies made by Padmasambhava about signs of increasingl...

Thanks for your reply linking to the previous thread on this same topic. My curiosity was satisfied. I will look into the White Lotus book, which is already on my list - along with so many others! Yes, I have joined in the online accumulation since I became aware of it a few months ago. Thanks for ...

Re: Giving Up Masturbation

Every argument introduced here can also be made about plants. Yes, well, there are good arguments to be made for sentience in plants as well.. most contemporary science tends to support such. I realize that may contradict Abhidharma, however we know what HHDL has said about what to do when science ...
