Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

And again i'm curious which Buddhists you think are just reading sutras and worshipping statues. It sounded like a general claim that Buddhist traditions have "lost the plot" in the way that Christianity has. Not saying I agree with everything ever taught by any Buddhist tradition, i'm sure there's...

Re: Kundalini Awakening vs Buddhist Awakening

Are these the same or different? If there is some overlap between them, to what extent does this extend? I have heard that some Tibetan Vajrayana practices incorporate energy work (i.e. Tummo), but does this have the same goals as Kundalini Yoga? What about other, non Tibetan or non Vajrayana tradt...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

So we shouldn't study the sutras? Where exactly do Buddhist teachings come from if not the Sutras, and lineages of Buddhists which were originally established by the Buddha and his disciples? What else is there tangible for you to put into practice exactly? Through practicing this technique and gai...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

...if misunderstood we would end up with a bunch of people worshiping and waiting for an external person or object to save them. That's just crazy :rolleye: and not what Jesus had in mind for his students. It's kind of interesting that what you've described here seems to be exactly what has happene...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

Just looking inward doesn't put something in line with The Buddhas teaching, if it did, nearly every Dharmic religion or form of mysticism focused on liberation would be Buddhism, but we can see they aren't, and have a wide range of views. Maybe Jesus could have perfected and clarified his teaching...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

Who is the one misinterpreting them when the claim is, "I am the light"? Surely according to your interpretation it should read, "We are the light" or "you are the light" If I declare myself the son of man, the light and the way - aren't I the one misunderstanding the Truth? “I am the way and the t...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

It was a cynical reference to Jesus, in the light of what Jikan wrote about, "other writers in the "spirituality" section such as Ken Wilber, Marc Gafni, Andrew Cohen, &c." It seems to me the difference is not necessarily whether their ideas are consistent with Buddhadharma or not, but rather the k...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

A mountain and a river are different, they are not the same At the gross level a mountain seems different than a stream, as we approach the sub-atomic level the differences dissapear, nothing but wavelets and bubbles. Come on lowly, give the whole quote! A little context please! I went on to ...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

This satetement of yours struck me as funny: ...in one interview where both Eckhart Tolle and The Dalai Lama were present, Tolle was talking about deep presence and the Dalai Lama simply stated that very few people reach this level of awareness, from this I assumed that the Dalai Lama had recognise...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

I think Tolle has had some genuine realization and he want others to feel the freedom he feels, nothing wrong with that.its not his fault he he doesnt belong to a lineage.i dont know the dept of his realization, but it is sincere,i dont think he is new ager at all. 100% agree with you martin. :thumbs...

I don't understand this comment at all futerko, what is the it that is ruined, and who ruined it?

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

More seriously, he's pretty hot stuff among the more New Agey Buddhists (also Deepak Chopra). But I have a highly skewed viewpoint, since I live near his home town and it's pretty much saturated in New Age philosophy, so I have to wonder if I am getting a representative sample. What is a New agey B...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

There seems to be much fear in regards to Eckharts books amongst the Buddhist community. I think Tolle's books are mostly met by disinterest and boredom among the Buddhists I've been around. I haven't seen much fear; I haven't seen anything that would lead me to think Tolle is seen as a thr...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

I have watched a couple of his videos in the past. His explanations are the same old pseudo-Christian patchwork of New Age spiritual borrowings that you find all over the place. He is nothing new. He just has Oprah backing him. That's why he is famous. If he didn't have Oprah backing him he would h...
