I have been taught various ways of understanding it, but my earliest teachings were from the view point of the Three Truths

The Tendai school postulates 9 Consciousnesses, with the Amala conscious being the 9th. It is pure, and un-tainted by negative karma. Although I've seen it equated with Buddha-nature, I need to research the concept a lot more before making any definitive statements as a Tendai Buddhist.

It seems that 一念三千 in TianTai and 一 真／一心法界 in HuaYan are connected with the idea of: the mind is all phenomena and all phenomena are the mind, but at the same time the mind is in a leading function, 一切唯心造.
