I have had two teachers. As my second teacher was my first teachers' teacher, the teaching has mostly been the same, but with more depth and further explanation... if that makes sense...

Re: Did Chi-i or tendai tradition recite NMHRK or lotus sutra title?

For instance: From Zhiyi's Confessional Samadhi: https://web.archive.org/web/20050317183048/http://www.tientai.net:80/lit/hksmsg/HKSMSGtextD4.htm I think though, if one were listening to these chants in Tendai temples, one would completely miss this sentence as it is chanted thus; 一心敬禮大乘妙法蓮華經十方一切尊經...

Re: does tendai school accepts the amala-consciousness concept

The Tendai school postulates 9 Consciousnesses, with the Amala conscious being the 9th. It is pure, and un-tainted by negative karma. Although I've seen it equated with Buddha-nature, I need to research the concept a lot more before making any definitive statements as a Tendai Buddhist.

What lineage to they belong to? What temple do they belong to? etc etc. Generally speaking, a lay person may practice th...

Re: NMHRK-5 principles of name, essence, quality, function, and teaching

The 5 principles are from Zhiyi, Tientai: Common to the masters of his time, Zhiyi claimed that the essence of the Lotus Sutra can be found within its title; “Saddharma Puṇḍarīka Sūtra”, in English “Sūtra on the White Lotus of the Sublime Dharma”, in Chinese 妙法蓮華經 Miàofǎ Liánhuá jīng, and in Japanes...

Though no Indian counterpart of the Tiantai and Huayan schools, both Chinese schools are basically Vijñānavāda in orientation, with an absolutist metaphysical twist. :buddha1: Tiantai was influenced by Vijñānavāda, but was far more influenced by Madhyamaka to the point where many will say that Tian...

Re: The doctrinal establishment of a Chinese Buddhism: TianTai and HuaYan schoools

Many thanks for your explanation. It seems that 一念三千 in TianTai and 一 真/一心法界 in HuaYan are connected with the idea of: the mind is all phenomena and all phenomena are the mind, but at the same time the mind is in a leading function, 一切唯心造. This would depend on what you mean by a 'leading function'....
