Re: Buddhism is peaceful?
If it was a private letter it would be odd for his students ton include it in his Sungbum/collected works. Caz there are many books for learning Tibetan available. The first step is to learn the alphabet. Learntibetan.net has good resources for this. Then you have to decide if you are interested in...

Re: Buddhism is peaceful?
Hey Caz, how can you reconcile your quote form LPYH with the letter MichaelB posted? these days the views of all Sakyas, Kagyus, Nyingmas and so on are erroneous. They are not even Svatantra or Cittamatra, let alone the view of Prasanga Madhyamaka – meditating only the nihilist view like tirthikas ...

Re: Buddhism is peaceful?
Hey Caz, how can you reconcile your quote form LPYH with the letter MichaelB posted? Reading through Phabongka's text, I've come across something about giving up Nyingma yidams when one practices Geluk yidams....he uses the example of Khyungpo Naljor, who first practiced Bon, then Nyingma, etc........

Re: Buddhism is peaceful?
Let me balance my above comments with: while philosophical disputes and wild assertions are to be expected, the destruction of monasteries in the name of Pabongkha, which did happen, is totally unacceptable and absolutely tragic. Its one thing to destroy a monastery in someone's name ...There are m...

Re: Buddhism is peaceful?
But that reflects badly on them not on whoever's speech they justify their delusions with. Really? So if I said: "Buddha told me for you to kill that guy over there" and you, due to your delusion (ie believeing I am correct), went over there and killed the guy then I bear no responsibilit...

Re: Buddhism is peaceful?
"Abandoning Dharma is, in the final analysis, [...] favoring one of the Tibetan schools—the Sakya, Gelug, Kagyu, or Nyingma—and disparaging the rest; and so on. In other words, we abandon Dharma any time we favor our own tenets and disparage the rest." Pabongkha abandons the Dharma. Bulls...

Re: Buddhism is peaceful?
This is one of several. In volume cha there is also mention of Dzogchen leading to hell and other statements about those who corrupt the doctrine. As I mentioned in another thread, my laptop fried and I am working from a tablet, so I do not have the tools to pursue this until I can get a new one, r...

Re: Buddhism is peaceful?
Pabongkhka's letter to the Chinese General Lui CHungtang "Although in the land of Tibet there are many different tenets like that of Nyingma, Kugyu, Sakya, Gelugpa and so forth it is only the Gelug School which establishes the unmistaken view of emptiness and the Prasangika Madhyamika system w...

Re: Buddhism is peaceful?
Im with Lama Zopa on this I don't believe even for a second that he would have performed such actions, As with other cases there are always the fanatical amongst Buddhists students who would harm one and other or destroy religious artefacts based on their own deluded misinterpretations of what is sa...

Re: Have you read portions of the Pali canon?
I am just interested in how many members of our Mahayana forum have read the Pali Theravada scriptures. For myself, at the moment I don't have so much time but during vacation periods from translating I often find I turn to Bhikkhu Bodhi's translation of the Majjima Nikaya for spiritual nourishment...

Why don't you ask him ? http://greatmiddleway.wordpress.com/about/ The New Jonang Community is a western branch of Great Middle Way Buddhism. It arose, as with all Buddhist communities, from the teachings, example, and blessings of Buddha Shakyamuni. These were then transmitted through a lineage of ...

Because he manifests through oracles and manifests as a gyalpo- as has been stated time and time again in other threads. This is what my one friend from Ganden Shartse has told me. I will wait to follow this up more with the other Geshe at our centre (from Ganden)but it will have to wait until Marc...

Re: Protector asscociated with Gaden / FPMT
This topic has been debated over and over on the forum so I am not sure why people keep pushing this thread. It is to the benefit of all of us not to allow DW to be dominated by this controversy. The civil atmosphere here is partly why DW has far more people paticipating that the other forums where...

Re: Protector asscociated with Gaden / FPMT
Good timing! I caught Geshe la just as he was boiling some water for tea. He told me that this deity, Gyalchen Karma Trinley is a worldly protector associated with the retinue of Glorious Hayagriva. I asked that since Hayagriva is enlightened if Gyalchen Karma Trinley might be as well. His answer? ...

Read that letter..one thing is clear..this dude does NOT like shugden!! Holy crap!! Anyone know if HHDL ever responded to this or not? The "Reting Lama" repeatedly bashes the Gelug tradition in this letter as defunct because of so called "Spirit worship" obviously not to push th...

Re: Is the CNN Dzogchen Comunity - a sect ?
Dawn Dharma organisations have to pay for alot of things in order to give Dharma to people, Books have a cost, Centres have a running cost etc In order to run Dharma centres efficiently they need to be organised in an appropriate way, Dharma is always given freely to those who ask, But Dharma commun...
