Re: Quote from Garchen Rinpoche on blessings
One quote by Garchen Rinpoche deserves another : A hundred scholars and a thousand yogis can say all they want to say about the nature of mind. But all can be summed up by this teaching of Jigme Lingpa . The mind should never be separate from loving kindness and compassion Loving kindness and compa...

Re: about Japanese Zen in Europe..
Hi icy I think you can search Zen centers of the world and a directory would come up showing what major groups there are in Europe. I do not know about the breakdown between Soto and Rinzai groups, and personally, what works is what is good IMO. "works" is another big topic but we ...

Hi DaftChris, and welcome to DW Mahayana! As to doubts, remember they are normal, and they are also a very good, healthy sign. It is natural and normal and intelligent to doubt...the only difference here is you also have your own practice, realisations, and undeniable experience/breakthroug...

Re: Order of Buddhist Contemplatives
Yes, I agree, it is often in the community and practice model that you can gauge its approach, values, teaching outcomes/fruits, and the like. I sat with the OBC for a weekend retreat at Throssel Abbey many many years ago. It was compulsory before you could sit with any of their wider organisations ...

ethics is nothing more than a manifestation of a dual mind what is good? what is evil? are they not concepts conjured up by a dual mind? in the eyes of a truly enlightened mind, nothing is truly good or evil... I watched a movie called "Anonymous" the other time and in this mythical story...

Re: Marines expanding use of meditation training
What an awful thing to have to do, to have to maim and kill, but it seems that many of these people do not mind ? There is even a bloodlust, a liking perhaps ? Or people get accustomed e.g meat eaters do not see it as the animal, but just as meat to be eaten. Zen Dude, could you enlighten me on some...

I am very lazy but the reality is a little cardiovascular exercise a day does wonders for the immune system and general health/well-being. Time is short but even 10 minutes can help and it is usually more do-able to a resistant mind

Re: Question About Monks Shaving Head
"When a person has shaved his hair and beard and put on the ochre robe, that's the symbol of his state as a monk. But it counts only on the external level. Only when he has shaved off the mental tangle — all lower preoccupations — from his heart can you call him a monk on the internal level. &...

Re: Order of Buddhist Contemplatives
Many groups/traditions have their controversies, but the most important thing (to me) is: is the teaching true, deep, real, genuine and secondly, is the group real, down to earth and premised on no-harm and kindness. Obviously when you have a group of very imperfect and WIP humans like all of us her...

the situation looks blacker than black. Yes. But it's also changing. This is from Kogan Seiju Bob Mammoser, Osho (of the Albuquerque Zen Center) "The oshos of Joshu Sasaki Roshi are deeply troubled by the allegations of abuse involving some of the students who have practiced at our centers.&qu...

A true flame, how funny (in a sad way). It's not funny, shel. Best wishes, Abu Not the subject matter of course. The funny but sad part was your referring to Sazaki as a "true flame" in contrast to Shimano, when in reality they burn like paired candles on an altar of debauchery. It's simp...

Re: Sam Harris on Buddhism
I haven't read him but based on some of the comments, it's OK, there will always be these people and there will be many who follow (seemingly) easier messages. But don't worry, don't let them (it) distract you from your own practice which really does require periods of solitude and silence also. FWI...
