Re: Guru Rinpoche As...
The tiger is the Bon deity Ati Muwer. Not according to anything I've ever seen. I think Samten Lingpa was clear the tigress (definitely female not male, unlike Bon sky god) is Tashi Chidren, one of the five main consorts of Guru Rinpoche. Do have a textual source for that claim? It's explained in t...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...
Etc. But there are 8 main surrounding figures, plus Pema Jungne in the centre. Who is wearing the pointy red hat? :reading: In the pandit hat? That's Padmasambhava, the pandit emanation of Guru Rinpoche. OK, good - but doesn't that mean we have nine main forms, as looks fairly obvious on the pictur...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...
You said /explained what Dorje Drolo is NOT, because you know it probably better. Then you own us the right answer about the guise of Dorje Drolo what he realy would be, otherwise the aforementioned statements would be right / correct. I'm not sure I understand but, essentially Drollo doesn't mean ...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...
Tashi delek M, Then please explain the meaning of Dorje Drolo, who is sitting on a tiger. Agree there are a lot of interpretations and some are valid and some not. Seems to be that this emanation of Guru Rinpoche is one of the most unclear guises of him. Explain? Not sure I can do that. Dorje Drolo...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...
Tashi delek, We know the 8 Manifestations of Guru Rinpoche, but i have also many times seen the Blue Guru Rinpoche as the Medicine Buddha. Etc. But there are 8 main surrounding figures, plus Pema Jungne in the centre. Who is wearing the pointy red hat? :reading: In the pandit hat? That's Padmasambh...

Re: Nyingma in London
It seems the Payul teachings clash with Tsultrim Allione. Typical. Just like london buses. None for ages then a bunch turn up at the same time.

Re: Nyingma in London
The Dzogchen retreat with the Longchen Nyingthik empowerments is in Germany. Oh. I didn't read it carefully enough. Vajrakilaya, though. What else would a Nyingmapa need? (Rhetorical question.) Just noticed there's also this in London: On Saturday 15th September will be the Guru Rinpoche and Tara e...

Re: Nyingma in London
I don't know. You'll have to go and find out. Some lamas are less willing to give teachings than others. In the mean time, Payul have ngondro instructions this weekend, a Vajrakilaya empowerment next week and Longchen Nyingthig three roots empowerments the week after. Tsultrim Allione will b...

Re: Nyingma in London
Lelung Rinpoche's incarnation lineage goes back to Drupchen Namkha Gyaltsen, Tsongkhapa's Nyingma and Dzogchen teacher. He also taught Tsongkhapa lamrim, iirc. He was seen (by Tsongkhapa and others) as an emanation of Vajrapani. Lelung Shepai Dorje's Nyingma credentials include more than just his co...

Re: The owl
Interesting how other cultures see the owl as a sign of wisdom or of a wisdom deity like Athena. Same with ravens(especially in America). Owl and Raven tranmen are also part of the Vajrakilaya mandala, I think. Owls and Ravens are specifically mentioned in some practices where one separates harmful...

Re: The owl
I've always heard that crows/ravens are emissaries of Mahakala. Eagles and hawks are dra-la and commonly signify protection. Seeing them is typically considered good. Living in Colorado, we see a lot. Never been told anything about owls, but I love them. Once was asked to get vulture feathers for a...

Re: Wangdu prayer flags, and new vs old termas
With respect to older termas, and traditions, the problem is mainly that accumulation of broken samaya in the lineage overtime. On the other hand, if you receive an older terma or teaching on Lamdre for example, from a highly realized person, then it is the same as receiving a fresh terma. However,...

Re: Empowerment question Krodha Kali / Dudjom Tersar
The two main Dudjom Tersar Drolo practices discovered by Dudjom Rinpoche have the same lineage, the same mandala (pretty much), and the same mantra, but require different empowerments. Always wondered why but if it's like that with one Dudjom Tersar yidam, I imagine it would be the same for others. ...

Wangdu prayer flags, and new vs old termas
Two questions: Does anyone know where I might find prayer flags printed with Jamgon Mipham's Wangdu prayer, the Great Cloud of Blessings that Magnetises all that appears and exists? Second: in the now-locked thread about Sogyal, Malcolm said This is why my guru counseled me that is was best to pract...

Re: Very sad news
I understand people's reluctance to comment on this issue and can also see how criticising a teacher like Sogyal can be strangley compelling and satisfying in some way. If ex-students shouldn't openly criticise a teacher because of samaya and non-students shouldn't because it's gossip, it's no wonde...
