Re: Attachment to a girl

greentara, I'm 42 years old. And to be a bit more clear on the relationship, if something happens it happens. But that's really not the relationship I'm seeking. If I wanted physical relations there's plenty of women in the area that would be willing to be part of that. Sad, but true. Justsit, I hav...

Attachment to a girl

Well as it says in the title, I'm becoming very attached to this great girl I met. As some of you know I'm an alcoholic in recovery, she is an addict in recovery. I've been told to keep my distance because two people in early recovery will usually mess each other up. I never plan on or want to drink...

Re: Avoiding the stream?

In my understanding, which is quite limited, there are no bodies that can remain indefinitely. These four Arahants who the Buddha asked to remain until the arrival of Maitreya will cease to exist at that time. It may be eons, but their bodies/existence will physically end. Nothing is eternal as we u...

Re: Breaking the Ego and arrogance

Thank you so much for all the great replies. I guess I have a lot to work with. Yes I do feel very fortunate to have come into contact with the Buddhas teachings, and have the rest of this life to practice. I do feel that through practice I will be able to overcome at least some of the challenges I ...

Thank you both for the input. I will do these things and try to be more attentive to the actions that involve the ego.

Breaking the Ego and arrogance

I know I still have an ego, sometimes too big.
I was told I was an arrogant person yesterday, I asked a few who knew me if I was. They said once in a while.

These are things I need to overcome and am asking advise from my friends here.

Re: Buddhism and alcoholism and my experiences

That is a really good posting. Thank you. I rejoice in you becoming sober and realizing these things at your young age. I am also an alcoholic, and in 5 days will be sober a year. I drank heavily longer than you've been alive. Buddhism is also what is helping me stay sober. You seem to have a great ...

Re: Alayavijnana - Dharma For Dummies

Hello my friend, Karma is actions. That is the actual meaning. So is the action wholesome or unwholesome? So for each of our actions there is a consequence. That is Karma coming "ripe" of fulfilling the reaction to the action. Have you looked here: http://lamayeshe.com/" onclick="...

Re: trying on different outfits

Visiting different centers of different traditions is fine in my opinion. You need to find your own path, no one can point it out for you. Why formally leave the Zen center? If you like sitting there, then go sit there. If you enjoy the other center, then visit that one more often. Do what feels rig...

Re: Richard Dawkins: If I met god when I die

Even Buddhists are believers. 1) We Believe in Historical Buddha, though there isn't foolproof evidence that Historical Buddha Gotama existed. Even if He existed, we can't prove for certain that 2) He was full Awakened. Even if he was, we can't prove that he 3) He didn't say un-truths, for whatever...

Thanks Seishin. I understand the respect aspect, but was really just asking to be sure. I wasn't sure if the glove box would be disrespectful. I will find something to protect the bool/s as well.

Respecting Dharma books

This time of year, harvest season, I'm in my truck for hours and hours on end. Sitting a lot of the time. I was wondering if keeping a book I'm reading in the glove box of the truck would be disrespecting the Dharma. I have time to read and just don't want it bouncing around or falling in the floor ...
