You should be committed to Mahayana.

Re: Anātman, the Buddhist Doctrine of No-Self
If one is in a state of clarity and prajña, there won’t be a struggle. Then one has understood properly, and then one doesn't really need to engage with the dialectics in the first place. I was referring to prior to proper discernment of the essence. If one has not realized the path of seeing, then...

Re: Anātman, the Buddhist Doctrine of No-Self
Even if it were possible for me to become enlightened and fully understand the doctrine of no-self, I would still suffer the effects of negative thoughts and emotions. Poison is poison. It affects the whole system. Define “negative thoughts and emotions”. Ultimately, thoughts and emotions are neutr...

Re: Anātman, the Buddhist Doctrine of No-Self
Agree. But this may be a difference between Madhyamaka practice with regard to emptiness and Theravada practice with regard to no-self. My personal sense, basically, is that essentially put you could say that Nagarjuna's second turning work could be considered to essentially be a commentary on Righ...

"To understand not-self, you have to meditate. If you only intellectualize, your head will explode." ~Ajahn Chah: A Still Forest Pool. My all time favorite quote regarding non-self. Isn't the point to make your head figuratively explode? Isn't the teaching having its intended effect...

Re: Classical examples for "svabhava" as a "epistemological defect"
This isn't a scholarly answer, which is perhaps what you're looking for, but I think it wouldn't be particularly unreasonable to say that basically the entire point of madhyamaka is to overturn a view (not simply intellectually, but in terms of actual realization/discernment) of svabhava in all dhar...

Re: Buddha Nature is a way to attract people
Just thought to add this to the thread, from Longchenpa: Those who have a mistaken view regarding the buddha nature assume an arrogant demeanor. Their faces are covered with the golden net of wrong opinions, and they turn their backs on the sūtras of definitive meaning and the view of the Secret Man...

Re: Prayer / Dedication of Merit for Financial Difficulties
All your karma is in « me my my ». When you hold onto bodicitta you leave me my, my, you leave karma and many things become possible. At a certain point I think it is considered that any focus other than bodhicitta is basically a deviation, a short-sighted and suboptimal one. Which isn't to say one...

Re: Permissibility of manga with sexual content for a Buddhist
Ok thank you for the clarification. So I imagine I wouldn’t be committing a wrong if there’s no prohibition but does this mean if I view it will I be in a “bad state” (i don’t know how to describe it) where I’ll be in the rebirth cycle? Generally speaking, at a certain point it is understood that i...

Re: Permissibility of manga with sexual content for a Buddhist
Hi I’m new to Buddhism and enjoy manga. My one problem is a lot of manga has sexual content called “fan service” which is usually like scenes and character designs that aren’t full pornographic just sexual. My question is, is it ok to read these mangas for their story even though they can contain t...

Re: Pointing out instructions
Well, as someone who works in the center of our current addiction and mental health crisis, I remain skeptical that these substances will be as useful as people think they will be. Again, from my perspective it’s the therapy and lowered inhibitions probably doing the work. I also think that there i...

Re: Western pysch, trauma and MDMA, etc.
I might agree with both. Because I dont know the answer (or answers) So, the solution for this is stronger drugs? We should address the origin... dont we? A big change is needed in mental health... Generally we should use all tools available to us that are beneficial, and there are multiple layers....

Re: Pointing out instructions
All the studies I’ve seen so far have been small sample sizes with a prevalence of confounding variables, particularly given that the entire approach involves a layer of therapy in addition to the substance. I'm well aware that currently the data is limited, but that doesn't change anything that I ...

Why so many mental issues nowadays? it's getting worse and worse and suicide rates growing, etc...soon it will be the big epidemic of XXI IMO a big part of it is a pervasive materialist, nihilist viewpoint which is largely unexamined. Generally speaking many people in our world in their day-to-day ...
